I don't own Terminator… Yet…
John Connor sat in his room, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. He tried to deny it, but logically he knew it was true. Sarah Connor wasn't his real mom! He had realized this yesterday after he donated blood to his uncle.
One day earlier
"He needs type AB blood. And a lot." Charlie had said.
"Sarah is type O negative. The universal donor." Cameron responded, giving Sarah a chillingly robotic look. However, Charlie shook his head.
"He needs another person with type AB blood and it's very rare."
"Test me." John had said, thinking that if he was really his uncle then they would have the same blood type. He was tested and it turned out he was type AB. It was only later as he watched his blood drip into his uncle did he realize what it meant.
It was, of course impossible for Sarah to be his mother. When parents give births, they each give one of the two gametes that make up their gene. The way these two mix is what determines the characteristics their child has. For blood type, you need to have a type A gamete from one parent and a type B gamete from the other in order to get type AB blood. However, if you have type O blood the only gamete you can pass to your children is a type O one. Since Sarah was type O, and John needed an A and a B gamete, there was no way she was his mom.
John heard a knock on his door, and he looked up to see his "mom" standing there.
"Hey John." She said. "Can we talk?"
John nodded and turned away to face the wall.
Sarah sat down on the edge of his bed. "What's the matter? You've been oddly quiet ever since you gave blood. Are you sick?" She reached up to check his temperature but he swatted her hand away.
"Stay away! I know the truth. Your not my mom!" John yelled, not bothering to hide his frustration.
Sarah looked confused, and after a moment said "I am too. Why do you say that?"
John felt angrier at this. How could she just keep on lying to him when he caught her? "Your type O blood and I'm type AB. It's impossible for a kid with type AB blood to have a parent with type O blood. Ergo, your not my mom."
Sarah stared at him for another second, and then burst out laughing. "John, you've been upset this whole time because of that?"
"Don't patronize me, 'mom.' I've done my homework." John said, wishing he could sick Cameron on the woman laughing at him.
Sarah smiled and said "John, I gave birth to you. I remember when you were conceived. I had you growing inside of me for 9 months. I know I'm your mom."
John stared at his mother, wanting desperately to believe her. "B-b-but it's a scientific impossibility!" He said.
"That's what you were told." Sarah said. She pointed out the door to where Cameron was silently cleaning a rifle. "Aren't you also told that's impossible too?"
The end.
You know, for a show that has such advanced scientific ideas on it, you think they'd notice a simple genetic mistake a freshman caught. Oh well. Please review and I hope you understood my explanation on blood type. If not, let me know and I'll try to be more clear. Thanks!!!
