Feels Like Home
She wasn't paying attention again. She had her head down, buried in work. The other detectives were gone for the evening, leaving her in her own world. She'd been different since they'd pulled her out of the freezing river. He was staring to worry about her. He knew that sometimes a detective burned out, or just last all their drive to work, but she'd gone the other way. She'd thrown herself into the paper work and the investigating with a new passion, but she rarely went out to speak with suspects or witnesses. It was like the accident had killed her ability to work in the field, but not her investigative drive.
He watched her for a few more minutes before deciding to head home. There was nothing more he could do at work. He gathered his coat and started to head out. He wasn't really paying attention, and lost in his own thoughts, didn't see her walking toward him. They ran right into each other. He steadied here, hands against her shoulders.
"Oh, sorry." She said quietly.
"Don't worry about it. Are you ok?" He asked giving her a once over.
"Yeah, I'm doing fine." She shrugged.
"Are you headed home?"
"Maybe in a little while. I want to finish this." She finally looked up at him. Their eyes locked and she couldn't look away.
He saw her pretty blue eyes widen and he started to lean toward her. Their lips brushed softly, hesitantly, then deepened. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close to her body. The kiss seemed endless. He pulled away to catch his breath and leaned his forehead against hers. They were in unknown territory.
Lilly breathed in his scent, his essence and for the first time she felt like she was home. Stillman was still unsure how they would proceed but they were lost in it and nothing would keep them apart.
We're crashing
Into the unknown
We're lost in this
But it feels like home
