The SOLDIER I See
A Poem in Tribute to Zack Fair
A poem in tribute to Zack Fair and all that he's done. He may be dead, but he lives on in my heart.
I saw a SOLDIER, young and strong,
a man who's seen all the things that are wrong.
He sees his friends, his eyes will fill
with tears of pride as he remembers still
a time when he was so strong and brave,
and had a friend to preserve and save.
He fought with honor, quick and strong,
his nights were endless, his days were long.
He looked death straight in the eye,
as he saw his enemies fall and die.
His strong hands always knew just what to do,
as they fought for a friend he knew.
Tragic a story his was told
from this SOLDIER, who was always so bold.
The fight is done, it's in the past,
but the things he did will forever last.
The blood, the pain, the loss cannot erase,
from the gentle rain trailing down the planes of his face.
He prepared the liberty, he lost his life
and freedom rings from his Strife.
A hero he always wanted to be,
his duty was what set him free.
I think of him and his great story,
I salute to him in a Core of glory.
I wish that in our hearts he could see,
how what he did touched you and me.
This SOLDIER to young, this Zack so Fair,
I weep for him and can only wish he took more care.
"Hey, I want wings like those."
