Shifting under the covers, Abby turned and studied the man beside her. He always looked so happy and peaceful when he was asleep. Abby gently ran her fingertips down his cheek. He had his arms stretched out over his head and she spotted the golden band on his left ring finger, then looked down and saw the matching one on her own hand. She still wasn't used to see it there. Lying back down on her pillow, she sighed.

The digital clock on the nightstand showed a little after three pm. She was lost in thought, and then she knew she couldn't sleep. Slowly she got up and tiptoed out from their bedroom. She stopped outside the nursery and silently cracked the door open. Joe slept soundly in his crib. Even if he was almost a year old now, being a mom was still new for her. She watched her son sleep for a while before walking back out in the hall.

For a moment she just stood there. Taking it all in. The basket of toys in the living room, their wedding photo on the wall, the almost charming and homey mess she was surrounded by.

Abby had never believed in true love. She'd never experienced it before. Not from her parents, nor her brother. Not really from Richard either. Their failed marriage had only shattered the image of love even more, if that was even possible. Along with the lack of real love, her drinking, smoking and events with her mother, Eric and worthless boyfriends, had almost made her believed that she wasn't worth more than all these disasters. Work had been her lifeline. It had all been about her job. Even her relationships. It made her smile when she thought of her first roller coaster relationship with Luka, being married to him was the last she wanted that night they broke up.

But somehow, they'd recovered. Repaired their friendship, making it a strong one. That fact had made Abby believe slightly in a second chance. Maybe she got one after all. But despite their strong friendship they'd still had their special connection. It had still been there, which might have been the reason to why she ended up at his place the night Sydney died. And the reason to why they started a relationship again, four years later. This time it had been different from the start, and she still felt that warm comforting feeling. She'd gotten a second chance, and dared to take it.

Now she walked back to their bedroom. Luka had moved and was lying on his side, hand on her pillow. Carefully, she curled up in his arms and enjoyed the warmth he provided. She deserved this, she knew that herself now that Luka had told her that so many times. By learning the hard way that there's really never the end, she'd received a second chance. A well deserved one. Feeling her eye lids getting heavier, she closed her eyes and draped the covers over them.

There was never really an end…If you deserved it you always got a second chance.
