An Air Force sedan drives down a tree lined suburban street in autumn before stopping at one of the houses. Two air force officers step out and walk up to the home knocking on the front door. Mrs. O'Neil opens the door to the two officers.
JOHNSON- "Mrs. O'Neil?"
Mrs. O'Neil steps away from the door, leaving it open as she goes to the kitchen.
MRS. O'NEIL- "Come on in."
The two officers enter shutting the door behind them.
JOHNSON- "Mrs. O'Neil, is your husband at home?"
She works on the dishes and reaches for a cigarette.
MRS. O'NEIL- "Yes."
JOHNSON- "Do you think we might be able to speak with him?"
She shrugs as she finishes lighting her cigarette and takes a drag from it.
MRS. O'NEIL- "You can try."
In a room there are toys and photographs, and a certificate for Tyler O'Neil in Widget League in 1988 litter a bookshelf. O'Neil sits on Tyler's bed, holding a pistol as he stares at the photographs. There's a knock at the slightly-open door. O'Neil puts the gun under the pillow as the door opens wider.
JOHNSON- "Excuse me, Colonel O'Neil. We're from General West's office."
O'Neil blinks, but does not turn around to face the men.
JOHNSON- "Sir? We're here to inform you...that you've been...reactivated."
The two officers exit the home and get back in their sedan.
BERRY- "The guy's a mess. How'd he get like that?"
JOHNSON-"His kid died. Accidentally shot himself."
BERRY-"Jesus"
