Chapter 1: New Begginings
Another fall day, another year of school. It was the first day of our junior year, and it was the first day in months that I had seen any of my friends. Slightly nervous, I approached the school gate, walking through the drifting mojimi, hearing their crisp crunch beneath my feet as a stepped. It was one of those fall days when you could smell the crispness of the air. Everything that day seemed fresh and new—except for the momiji, dying a slow death, it sheds its leaves one by, until one day there are none, nothing remains.
I approached the school gate with that same feeling of nervousness and excitement I felt each year when school started. However, I think I was excited more than nervous that day—this year was going to be better than any other: I had finally began to make friends with the others at my school, and things were finally starting to look up.
I emphasize "finally" because it was just that. I had a childhood that, when compared to that of others seems a bit rough. Born, then orphaned by some calamity, I lived alone all my life. And not only that, but people treated me different than others for some reason. Without reason or cause, people would glare at me as I walked down the street, even as a child.
Yet despite this unprovoked hatred, I managed to rise above it, and some how won acceptance from the town. Besides, living alone had its perks; I didn't have to follow any parents rules, and only cleaned up after myself. By that year, I matured quickly, becoming an accomplished cook and maid for my own little apartment.
So alone I lied, and alone I walked to school that day, like every other. That morning everyone was in early to see which class they would be in. My name is easy to find on the list, as it begins with a "U"—Uzumaki. The list told me that I was to report to room 2-b, as it would be my class for the year. As I soon discovered, 2-b was a nice room. Located on the second floor, it was in such a position that looking out the window, one could the seasons pass before him.
I wasn't the first in the room, but the seat I wanted was open: the window seat in the back. It was where I could be beside myself, and stare out the window, or at the backs of those who annoyed me, or those who interested me. I noticed Kiba Inuzuka diagonal to me, he was someone that fit both categories. He had a loud and confident attitude, but could be cocky and arrogant. Although we weren't close friends, he was one of the few I wanted to become good friends with. I found that I liked people that were bright. Not necessarily smart, but bright, meaning they just have that spark—that light in their attic. Kiba, for example, seemed to have that spark, while others I met, such as Ino Yamanaka, just didn't.
