Prologue
Three cats stared into a pool, their starry pelts rustling in the cool breeze. Finally one raised his head, bright orange fur standing on end. "It's him, isn't it?"
"I'm afraid so," another sighed, her eyes filled with concern. "I don't know what he plans to do this time, but it can't be anything good."
"But all the clans know the danger by now," a second she cat hissed, tail lashing the air in disgust. "They'll chase him off before he can do any harm!"
"Some cats may listen to him still," the first she-cat gently pointed out. "He might be a snake, but he's a very well disguised one and only ThunderClan has seen all of him."
"We'll send them a warning, at least... Hollyleaf, Ferncloud, will you join me in this task?"
"Of course, Firestar," Ferncloud meowed, her eyes filled with sadness and concern as she gazed back down at the pool. "You know I will do anything to protect my loved ones from danger."
Hollyleaf followed Ferncloud's gaze for a moment, then turned back to Firestar, her expression determined. "I will join as well. I won't let that piece of crowfood get anywhere near ThunderClan."
"Then it's decided," Firestar announced, beginning to stand up. But it was then that he was distracted as a something humongous and surrounded by white and blue flames crossed the sky, larger than any star should be, suddenly splitting into two before it disappeared completely from StarClan's skies, leaving any cat who'd seen it blinking wildly as they fought to regain their vision.
Finally Ferncloud spoke up, her voice trembling. "Wh-What in the world was that?"
"I... I think is was a sign," Hollyleaf replied, her voice laden with uncertainty. Both of them looked over at Firestar after a moment, hoping he could interpret what it meant.
Firestar stood silent the longest however, his eyes still wide. "Two cats, no... something greater than even a warriors of StarClan, with the power to lead the Three back into battle against a foe who will threaten all that we know."
Ferncloud gasped, "Wait, but if these beings are not cats, how will they warn the clans and lead the Three?"
"Midnight isn't a cat." Hollyleaf pointed out.
Firestar shook his head. "No... They may not be cats but they will appear so. Regardless we must tell Jayfeather of this new prophecy. The other cats of StarClan will warn their medicine cats as well, I'm sure. That... thing that crossed the sky... It was visible to all of StarClan, not just us."
"Then what are we waiting for? We can speak to Jayfeather anytime we need to."
"No, we shall wait until the half-moon three nights from now," Firestar commanded, tail lashing. "Besides I wish to speak to others about this first. For this will affect all of us here in StarClan but also all the cats that live by the lake and even the ones who dwell in the mountains. No cat shall be left unaffected and everything will be changed."
Please review! This is the first time I've posted up fanfiction in about oh... five years? Something like that. I know I've improved as a writer, but I would love to receive some feedback. :3
