"Um… Doctor?" muttered Rose, hesitating outside the car. "Are you sure you know how to drive?"
"Oh, yeah. I was there when human invented the first car. And when they invented the first flying car. I'm pretty much an expert," said the Doctor confidently, waiting impatiently in the driver's seat for his companion to enter.
"Couldn't we just take the TARDIS?" Rose asked, still hesitating at the door.
"No, she needs to refuel."
"We can't just wait for her to get fuel, then go back in time to right now, and then visit your friend?"
"No. He said that a blue police appearing on his front lawn would attract too much attention. We have to take the car." He hesitated then rolled his eyes. "What, do you not trust me?" he said with a slight smile.
"I trust you with my life," muttered Rose, "just not with a car." louder she said, "No offense, Doctor, but we haven't exactly had smooth landings in the TARDIS, either."
"Come on, just get in. And don't forget your seat belt."
Rose hesitated, then sighed. She knew there was no use fighting it. If he wanted to take the car, then they would take the car. After she got in she asked, "what if I drove?"
"Nope." said the Doctor, and he started the car. "Now, let's see. This pedal is the gas… and the other one is pointless." he murmured to himself.
"Doctor, you're going to need a brake."
"No thanks." he said, eyeing the controls. "I slept a good ten hours last night, I'll be fine."
"No," said Rose, regretting getting in the car with each passing second. "I mean, the other pedal… it's the brake."
"Exactly," The Doctor said, jerking out of the parking space, "that's why I said it was useless."
"See, Rose. I told you I know how to drive."
"Doctor, tree, tree, tree, TREE!" screeched Rose, face pale and clinging to her seat.
"Whoa," the Doctor managed to swerve in time, eliciting a honk from a passing car. "Don't worry, Rose. I've got this.
"Oh, thank God we're only five miles away." Breathed Rose, as she managed to catch sight of one of the road signs, blurred with the speed they were going.
"We'll be there in two minutes." said the Doctor, accelerating slightly.
Rose whimpered.
"Rose?" said the Doctor, peering over to the passenger side, where she was still fixed to the seat, her eyes screwed shut. "Rose?"
"Are we there?" she asked weakly.
"Yeah." said the Doctor.
Rose fiddled with her seat belt for a moment before pulling open her door and falling onto the ground. "Oh, sweet, sweet ground," she said, before kissing it several times, "I never thought I'd see you again. I promise to never leave again."
"Hey, Rose," spoke the Doctor, scooting from the driver's seat to the recently vacated passengers seat to get closer to his companion. "I just got a great idea."
"Oh, no." Rose whispered.
"Let's get a car!"
"What?" said Rose, raising her head slightly go gaze at the Doctor, dumbfounded.
"Yeah, let's get a car. We can park it in the TARDIS." he said, enthusiastically.
Oh, no. Thought Rose, standing up. "Um… I don't think that's a good idea." she said out loud, racking her brains for something to convince him.
"Sure it is. Just think of it, we could drive the car everywhere!"
This must be avoided at all costs. The blonde thought. So, she said, "Um.. but we're rarely on Earth, and when we are we're usually not in a time period that will use the car. I think we should just take the TARDIS, I mean, it is a time and space machine, so it can travel anywhere and any time. We really don't need a car."
The Doctor hesitated. "Yeah… I guess you're right." he said, disappointed.
Crisis averted. Thought Rose.
"Besides," said the Doctor, "I'll still get to drive it back."
Partially averted. Oh, no.
