Sky as dark and endless as his eyes

Ground stained crimson with the blood of the innocent

They stood there in the night, hearts pounding as they

Stared across the disaster area.

Tears flowed freely

Just the two of them

They knew there would be more death than this

But they were ready for anything.

They had spent their life preparing

Knowing this was the future

Full of death and

Grief as loved ones were murdered.

But they were here together

And that's all that mattered right now.

Cries of pure agony filled the thin air

As the injured died slowly;

Motionless bodies littered the ground,

Their lifeblood draining into the hard earth.

And she rested her head on his chest,

As he stroked her unkempt hair, she allowed his to pull her close.

He bent his head, his long black hair shielding his eyes

As tears,

Real tears,

Threatened to fall from his eyes

For the first time since

His father.

She didn't notice, but she knew he was grieving too;

They all were.

They stood there, not moving, not speaking;

But their silence was all they needed to know that no one was coming back.

Not her redhead friend or his brother;

Not the headmaster, the most powerful wizard ever;

Not the most evil wizard to ever exist, but that was just a windfall;

And, most of all, the Boy Who Lived.

The boy who had saved them all by going into that forest and given his life

For her, and him,

And everyone else who had ever been threatened.

She looked up into his endless eyes, seeking comfort.

He gazed back, burning into her mind, and slowly leaned down

And gave her the only comfort he could as his lips brushed hers gently.

The tears ran freely as she recalled the Chosen One's last words said to her:

"I know now, and I think you do too."

The pair, too caught up in each other, failed to notice

A silhouette moving just inside the dense, shadowed forest behind them

The shape staggered, then collapsed

And the sound of the air being driven from starved lungs finally

Caught their attention.

She stepped towards the figure, started running and crumpled at his feet

He watched their joyful reunion, which quickly turned

As she informed the Chosen One of the losses that were quickly mounting.

His green eyes darkened and a small moan escaped him as he remembered.

But it wasn't all lost; he still had her. She still had her dark wizard.

That's all they remained on: The present. They would survive this War.
