The night was darker than it had been for awhile. The rain came pouring down harder every minute.
Uchiha Sasuke looked up at the sky from the point he was at at The Valley of the End. The exact place he had left Naruto to die so many years ago.
Naruto...
He whispered the name roughly, wishing he could hear the boy- no, man, behind him, exclaiming about how Itachi and Orochimaru were dead and why couldn't he come back to Konoha? Or, even better, about how he loved ramen, or was thinking about asking Sakura out, like old times.
But he couldn't hear anything. Not even the rain pounding relentlessly against the rock and water around him.
He wished Naruto could come up, press his lips against Sasuke's one last time, so he could memorize his taste all over again.
But he couldn't taste anything. Not even the rain as he licked his lips.
He wished he could press his face in between the junction of Naruto's shoulder and neck again, to smell beef or miso or whatever flavor of ramen he had eaten that day, to smell Sakura's perfume that always seemed to linger on him, to smell Naruto's unique scent.
But he couldn't smell anything. Not even the moisture in the air or the earthworms coming up to breathe.
He wished he could see shocking blond hair, those deep, blue eyes, Naruto's tanned muscles and a blur of orange. He wished Naruto could be here to make him see stars.
But he couldn't see anything., Not even the rain that fell from the sky.
He wished he could feel Naruto's body intimately lined up with his, pounding into him time and time again. He wished Naruto could be here to make him feel alive.
But he couldn't feel anything. Not even his heart beating in his chest.
Because Sasuke was only wishing, and Naruto couldn't.
He couldn't because he was dead.
And if Naruto was dead, then Sasuke was too.
