Burn Notice, All, Mirrorverse

Anson Fullerton is one of the best shrinks employed by Uncle Sam. It's not only that he graduated with a prestigious degree and has PhD after his name; he has a way with spies and soldiers that convinces them to open up to him when they refuse to speak with anyone else. When they are paranoid and isolated and on the edge, Anson Fullerton can work his way through their defenses and bring them back to solid ground.

There is one man, however, that escapes analysis; one man that Anson Fullerton cannot, no matter how hard he tries, get a bead on. Michael Westen.

Anson can profile him easily – sociopath, severe relational and control issues stemming from an unstable childhood, risk-seeking behavior, borderline narcissism. He has on-file personality reports decades old, from when Westen was employed by the Special Forces and then various intelligence agencies before he faked his death, that help him get a comprehensive look at his subject. But unlike every other operative Anson has interacted with, that diagnosis is nearly useless. For as adept as Anson is at getting inside his patients' heads, Westen is just as good worming his way into Anson's.

Westen enjoys playing with expectations: acting true to type one instance, then subverting them the next. He also enjoys flaunting Anson's inability to get a grip on his personality when Westen so obviously had a lock on Anson; he grins tauntingly, scar creasing his face, as he tears apart Anson's latest counter-move to try and squirm out of Westen's power.

I just want my life back! Anson shouts at him one day, nearing the end of his rope. He took the job to help people and keep his country safe, not to recruit his vulnerable patients to a shady extralegal organization.

That's too bad, Anson, Westen replies mock-sympathetically as he wipes Victor's blood off his hands and onto his thousand dollar suit – Victor, his one ally in destroying an organization nobody believes even exists, his last hope of escape. You're mine.

And once Westen gets his claws in, he never lets go.
