Double drabble, or something. This is really general but I was thinking of Levi and Petra... Oh, and perhaps I was inspired by a song you are never likely to hear.

I disclaim.

We may carry wings on our backs, but the wings hardly carry us. (Everyone gets it wrong, but we know.)

There are no wings of freedom; we cannot fly, not yet (but you can, already).

A bird fleeing to the open sky in a flurry of feathers; that is us; we are its wings. (The wings of mankind, of humanity, of delusional fools; you choose).

A bird fleeing its predator; we carry it away (and you are the feathers that scatter upon the wind; see? you can fly).

And even that is not true.

It's always in bright sunlight; yet it is never bright enough to burn away the sight of your accusatory face (I know you don't. I accuse myself).

(I know. But I will live with that. I want to.)

You no longer need these useless wings; you have your own now. I still need them, however. You don't mind, do you?

Yes, I know you're not here. I hope you're not. There's nothing holding you down here anymore. You're flying. Fly!

Don't you know?

This is the last thing left for us to believe in:

Those who live shall be free.

Those who die are already free.
