Just Call Me

Lily Evans looked up from her Divination homework. "I hate you, James Potter!" she cried.
"My god, Lily, did James Transfigure your homework again?" her best friend, Renee, asked.
"What's it look like?" Lily said coldly. Her parchment was covered in silver and green letters that spelled out "I love Lucius Malfoy".
"This should be turned to 'I hate Lucius (Lulu) Malfoy and Divination'", Lily said.
"You got that right," Renee replied.

"I hate you, James Potter!"
The sound of Lily Evans' voice drifted up one of the spiral staircases to the 5th year boy's dormitory. James Potter looked up at his best friend and said, "Finally! I thought she would never do her homework."
"That wouldn't be like her," Sirius Black told James. "She probably wanted to keep the worst for last, just like at dinner. You know, dessert first, regular stuff last? That's the way I always eat."
"Y'know, Sirius, that might be the truest thing you've said today!" James replied.
"What about when I told Renee that a certain person snogged half the girls in the school, so she couldn't go out with him because he'd break her little heart after their first date?"
"That's not true! I only snogged the good-looking ones. And none of the Slytherins."
"Only because that slimy git known as Malfoy snogged them first!"
"That's not true! It's only because. because they're Slytherins! And no one likes Slytherins, do they?"
"Only the mommies and daddies of the little babies, but no one likes Malfoy! Not a single soul! Except for those cronies, Crabbe and Goyle. What are they, Malfoy's bodyguards or something? Think Malfoy could stand a single punch before he ran off crying if those two weren't protecting his poor little self?" Sirius asked.
"Nope," James replied truthfully. Just then Remus Lupin entered, looking haggard.
"'Bout that time of year again, Moony?" Sirius asked.
"Don't you pay attention in astronomy? The full moon's tomorrow night," Remus replied.
"Really?" asked James. "I thought it was, oh, about a month ago."
"Nice one, James," replied Remus.

"I don't get it," Lily told Renee and her other best friend, Wendy. "Why does he have to be so awful to me? What have I ever done to him to make him always pick me to be the butt of his jokes?"
"Isn't it obvious, Lily? He likes you," Wendy told her.
"Yeah, a boy only picks on you if they like you," Renee added.
"I get your point," said Lily. "A boy would be too shy-no, too gutless to just come out and say, 'Hey Lily, I like you,' wouldn't he?"
"I couldn't agree more," Renee agreed.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Up the spiral staircase in the 5th year boy's dorm, another discussion was being held.
"Prongs, why didn't you Transfigure Renee's homework, too?" Sirius asked.
'I have my reasons," James replied. Inwardly he was thinking of Lily, and how much he liked her. No, that wasn't right. He didn't like her, he loved her.
James thought of her beautiful, emerald green eyes, her fiery red hair that cascaded halfway down her back, her lovely laugh. He thought of what it would feel like to hold her in his arms and kiss her. James was in love with a girl who, he thought, hated him.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Lily lay in bed that night, thinking about a certain person. James Potter. One could get lost in the oceans he called eyes, the hair that was a deep dreamy black, his smile sweet and charming. She just wanted to love him and cuddle up next to him.
