It's only an idea right now! I dunno where it's going to be headed or if I'm going to write it for that matter. So I'd love and appreciate any thoughts, comments, or even ideas on how the story should go if it does.
"Hey, mister! Don't give me that look! I very well can sail this boat!" Éponine wagged her finger, giving him a good glare. She stomped angrily behind him as he sauntered down the dock and back to shore.
"Look, miss. I don't doubt your capabilities but see it this way." He made hand gestures to emphasize his point, "I am the captain here, and the captain's got responsibilities. One of them is to make sure ma' men are safe at sea, and seeing as I've never seen yer face or heard yer name before means that I know nothing about ya! At this point, whether or not ye can sail my boat is out of the question!" He flailed his arms around enthusiastically.
She sighed in response, "Then what's with the new guy you just hired?" She stuck her hand on her hip and threw her other arm in the direction of the boat, "He's never even touched water! Let alone a boat!"
Enjolras had never had a woman argue with so much determination, let alone him. He rubbed his neck in nervousness, "Why can't you just listen, miss?! Take a look at society! How many clients would I get if I had a woman runnin' the show?!"
Although he was all for equality, he was also for enough profit to eat dinner. Business was slowing down, especially with up and coming commercial boats roaming the waters. A woman as a captain or even a crew member was outrageous. She'd scream at the sight of some of his men, and he had no doubt that they would have a go at 'er every one in a while.
"Just let me show you I can! I promise ya', I won't let ye' down! And yer clients won't have ta know. You can just call me‒" She stopped herself. Even fewer people would come if they knew there was a Thénardier on the boat, they'd rather drown themselves. She couldn't be Éponine‒"Call me Jondrette!"
Enjolras contemplated, "One shot! Ye got one shot!"
