She realised it was a mistake as soon as she turned the corner. The diamond ring sat on her left hand, fourth finger, delicately, a glimmer in its eye that a short time beforehand had been shared in her own; now felt like a frayed noose, heavy in that it weighed her down and made her breath hitch in her dry throat.

It wasn't fair and it wasn't right and it shouldn't be happening.

A chorus of confusion echoed through her mind; no one voice stood out, just a mass of exasperated questions smothering her whole being, like a murderer places a pillow over its victim for a moment too long, cutting screams and please and any last chance a person would have of escape before all that is left is a body. Drained. Empty.

There's no difference when it comes to marriage, thinks Sam soon-to-be-Jones Puckett, as the thought of being drained and empty consumes her, suffocating.

Run!

Take the next train out, hell, take his car; God knows you deserve it after what's been done. Drive to Orlando: train killer whales in SeaWorld! Drive to California: become a star! Drive to Mexico: join a Mexican gang! Just don't let this mistake kill you.

Breathing becomes easier and the weight on Sam forever-afraid-of-commitment Puckett's left hand, fourth finger gets lighter, as she steps away from the corner of the apartment building she's (by the looks of the rapidly darkening skyline) been against for so long.

Life starts now.

Sam left on a Thursday night, with money exchanged from a diamond ring on the passenger seat and rich blue eyes filled with forever looking ahead.

/ I hope you enjoyed this! This was a practice assessment for my English GCSEs I'll be taking and the grade I got wasn't so bad so I figured I'd upload it here. Besides, when I was writing this I had Sam in mind so I hope it's not too OOC. It took about 45 minutes to write in lesson time and I haven't adapted it much (besides the name) so it may seem a little rushed? Idk, let me know in a review!

This is my first fic on here so please be gentle..
