You Weren't Here
'Damn, I am late.' He thought as he pulled into the parking lot. 'I was supposed to be here at 6:00 pm now its 1:00 am. Jim is going to be pissed.'
As soon as Blair put his key into the lock the door jerked out of his hand. In front of him stood Jim Ellison, Sentinel in full Blessed Protector mode.
"Jesus Jim.." was all he got out before said Protector pulled him into a rough bear hug. "It's ok big guy." Blair soothed.
"Where have you been?" The slight tremor in Jim's voice gave away his emotions.
Blair pulled back to look into his friend's face. "What's going on Jim?"
"I'm sorry. I've had a bad night." Jim retreated, literally and emotionally.
"Not gonna work, Jim." He followed the big man. "Tell me what's got you so spooked."
"I ate dinner, watched a movie, read the newspaper, but don't ask me what I ate, watched or read because...damn."
"Because why, Jim?"
"I burned my hand on the stove, broke a plate then banged my head cleaning it up." Jim continued.
"Because why, Jim?"
"Then I tried to go to sleep but all I did was toss and turn. So I got up and ran shin first into my nightstand. Then i fell down a couple of stairs landing on my butt, which is already starting to bruise. This is so sad. Like i said I was having a bad night."
"But why were you having a bad night." Blair slipped between concern and humor and almost couldn't control the smirk threatening to break out.
"Because you weren't here."
The reply was so soft that Blair almost did not hear it. But thankfully he did and he pulled his friend back into the rough bear hug.
