"Welcome back, Death!"
Death frowned as Kaguya Houraisan looked up from her game to greet him. Up to now, he had no idea why she bothered with him, despite the fact he kept on dropping hints that he didn't want to be associated with her.
"I told Eirin to cook food. It's on the stove if you want it!" Kaguya told Death, smiling at him.
"Very well..." Death grumbled in annoyance. Kaguya knew very well he didn't need to eat, yet she chose to have food cooked for him anyways. It was annoying.
He didn't know why he even bothered with Kaguya. She was lazy, whiny, and never wanted to do anything for herself, choosing to have her servants do it for her. There was nothing he could really like about her, to be perfectly honest.
Yet, he never left. He had been offered lodging by better-suited candidates. Shiki Eiki offered him a place in her courtroom, and he'd be bothered only to do work. Yuyuko Saigyouji said that he could stay with her and Youmu, and the half-ghost would set up a place for him to be alone in their netherworld. Remilia Scarlet even asked if he wanted a place in her mansion, and would be free to do as he wished there. But for some reason, he was still with this stuck-up NEET in her house.
As per usual, Death didn't touch the food and checked on Strife's Redemption pistol. Keeping the gun in immaculate order was the least he could do for his brother.
"Death!"
Jumping at the sudden shout, Death pointed the gun at Kaguya, who had suddenly shouted and was mere feet away from him. The princess of Eientei put her hands in the air, crosseyed from staring down the barrel of the pistol. With a sigh, Death lowered Redemption, and Kaguya sighed in relief.
"Do not suddenly shout like that," Death hissed.
"Sorry, sorry..." Kaguya apologized.
He hated Kaguya Houraisan. She was a nuisance. An annoyance in his life. An-
"How are your siblings?"
With a suspicious look, Death's gaze narrowed as he tried to see if Kaguya was trying to manipulate him. Her expression was sincere.
His suspicion hardly wavering, Death asked, "Why do you care?"
"I want to know you better, Death. That's all."
With an agonized groan, Death told her, "War is still under questioning by the Charred Council. They still have not seen reason."
"Oh."
Kaguya didn't jump on him or try to do anything physical on him. She just looked at Death with remorse as she asked, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
"As if I'd believe you'd get off your lazy rear to help me," Death growled.
"That's fair," Kaguya admitted, "...but I do want to help. Really."
Death searched for some sign she was lying in her face or voice, but nothing gave anything away.
She really wanted to help save War, Death's dear younger brother. That... felt nice.
"I don't think you'll be able to help, but... thank you for offering," Death choked out.
Kaguya had a smile as she nodded. Death got up and went to his room so he could talk to Dust.
Maybe he was wrong about how he felt about Kaguya. Maybe he did kind of like her.
