"He's not fatso, he's Piggy!" Ralph laughed.

"Piggy, Piggy, Piggy." The boys chanted mockingly, glad to join in the fun.

" Ralph! I trusted you… How could you…"

"Piggy! Piggy! Piggy!"

"Stop!" His eyes filled with tears. "Guys. Stop. It's not funny… Please.."

"Piggy! Piggy! Piggy!" The chanting dictated his heart rate, filled his senses, drove him nuts." Piggy! Piggy! Piggy!"

Okay. That's it!

"Anyone who wants to be rescued, come with me. The rest of you can rot for all I care!" He screamed and left the crowd. In the ensuing silence most of the littluns, Simon and twins, Sam and Eric, rose and followed him up the mountain.

"Okay. We can't count on rescue, 'cause of the war, but I bet we can make boats. And leave. Anyone know how to build a proper boat?" he asked, now leading his own group.

"My dad designed boats, before the war. Sailboats, I mean." Simon piped up "I used to help him all the time. Basically we need-"

"Sorry to interrupt Simon but its winter. Sailboats would not work when it isn't raining, 'cause there's no wind and we can't sail when it is, because we'll overturn or our boats will fill with water. We need something we can row. Did your father make canoes?" Simon brightened up. "Yeah, he did! And we could make them out of these trees too. This is perfect!"

"Okay! Settle down." He took control again " The littluns will make sure everyone has food, so go foraging now, Okay? Me and…" He raised his eyebrows.

"I'm Sam, and he's Eric." Sam said.

"We're twins and." Eric added.

"We do everything together." Sam finished.

"I'm Simon."

"Me, Simon, Sam and Eric will figure out how to get us off this Island." He waited a little while. "Come on. Off you go." The 30 or so littluns ran off into the forest.

"Simon, which of these trees would be best?" he indicated at the woods with a wide gesture. "Remember we need 4. Each of us will sail off with 5 littluns." The three nodded.

"These five'll do. We should whittle at the trunks until they fall, trim the branches and make holes in the middle. Well not holes, you know what I mean, right?"

"Ye…" he stopped as several littluns ran in from the forest screaming incoherently. "What's wrong? What happened? Calm down!"

"Gone! People went… beast…. Ralph.." One of the littluns, Danny panted.

"Calm down. You're safe." He reassured them. "Now, Danny. Tell us what happened.

"A beast. A horrible, giant beast. We saw it. Some of the others left. They say Ralph can protect 'em better, but I think the only way to be safe is to get away. Only you can do that." Danny raised hopeful eyes at him.

"Okay. Who left?"

"Ali, Josh, Nathan, Adel, Tomer, Ron, Ahmed, Bradley, Mohammed and Lee."

"Collect everyone who stayed. This 'beast' complicates things."

When Danny had assembled everyone he relayed his new plan "First let's get everyone's names. We'll do a round."

"Well, I'm Danny."

"Mark."

"Roger." (a/n: NOT the Roger from canon.)

"Tom."

"Benny."

"John."

"Richard."

"Benjamin."

"Eric."

"Avi."

"Noah."

"Cliff."

"Roi."

"Michael."

"Jonathan."

"James."

"Edward."

"Edmund."

"Paul."

"David."

"Sam and Eric" Sam started.

"We're twins." Eric completed.

"Because of the beast we'll change some stuff, okay? From now on, Me, Simon, Sam or Eric will split up. Two of us will stay with you, and two will go and pick fruit. Actually, I think there may be vegetables in the woods, so we'll look for those. Any questions?"

"Who'll work on the boat?" Simon asked.

"Whoever's here. Everyone. Including the kids, all right?"

There were no objections and two weeks later, as they left on their boats the rowed in turns, he wondered what happened to the children who didn't come with him. Ah, well, I'll get help back home.
