Daisy sat on the couch, her legs dangling off the edges as she waited. For what exactly, she didn't know. It was all she could do not to think about that young man in the uniform. Where is he? Daisy thought. Can't he come back now?

"Daisy, a letter!" Jordan called from the door. This statement had Daisy flying out of the couch and tumbling her way to Jordan.

She snatched the letter from Jordan's hands and didn't even wait to get to a seat to open the letter.

"My dearest Daisy," it began.

"First and foremost, I would like to know about how you've been while was I was gone. Did an illness catch you? Where are you currently? Any new gentlemen trying to steal you away from me?"

At that, Daisy grinned and bit her fingernail. She had already made it to a seat and plopped down against it still holding the letter between her fingers.

"Although I must say, I shouldn't be surprised of how many men were waiting in line right after I left.

"The war is doing swimmingly, if one were allowed to say that. I would say that this war might end favoring our side. And once it is, I would be home. Of course I'd be coming home to you."

Daisy relished reading that line. She read it over and over again before continuing to the next.

"I will be coming home, Daisy. You have kept me alive all this time."

At this, Daisy thought about Tom. She thought about the wedding she was going to be the bride in just a few more hours.

"I want you to wait for me, Daisy. In just a few days, I will be back, and we will be together again."

Daisy bit back a sob as she read the rest of the lines.

"I will marry you. It seems a bit rash for me to tell you this in a letter but I will. Do I have to ask you? Would you like me to get on my knees with a diamond ring for everyone else to see? Well, I guess I will find out when I come home. But do not expect a fancy ring, as I am just coming home from the warfront and will not have time to go shopping for one.

"As soon as I am home and settled back in, I will look for the perfect ring for you. I would want to have you look for one with me but it is against custom. I am not skilled when it comes to the art of shopping unlike you, I just hope God helps me when I see that perfect accessory."

Daisy smiled with tears running down from her eyes. Her make up was ruined, blotches of black covered her cheeks but she didn't care.

"All I ask is that you wait for me. Please.

"`Til then, my beloved, Jay."

A few moments later, Daisy pulled at the string of pearls sitting on her neck and said,

"Take `em down-stairs and give `em back to whoever they belong to. Tell `em Daisy's change` her mine. Say: 'Daisy's change` her mine!'"
