I dont know why, but I felt obligated to write this. It has been floating around in my head for a while. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender. If I did, it wouldn't be as awesome as it is.
"Faster Aang, You cannot become an airbending master by slowing down." Monk Gyatso yelled over the wind. He usually doesn't yell unless he is passionate about something. Right now, he was passionate about teaching me how to glide. He says that the best airbenders start with control over the skies. This was the last time he would train me, for my airbending test was just this afternoon.
"Aang, you must keep up with me!" Gyatso said, snapping me out of my worries. I sped up on my glider, passing him.
"Gyatso, you must keep up with me!" I mimicked. Soon after, we were in a heated glider race around the Temple. In the distance, a gong went off. Twelve gongs. Monk Gyatso's face suddenly turned serious. He glided toward land, and I followed closely behind.
"Midday." He stated. Gyatso turned toward me with a look of pride upon his face. Aang, it is time for you airbending test.
I felt many different emotions at that time. I wasn't sure if I was ready to get my arrows. Yet, the look on Gyatso's face filled me with the most confidence I had ever felt.
"Let's go."
Line Break
I stood in front of the four of the Air Nomads. Before beginning, Gyatso pulled me aside to give me a piece of advice.
"Airbending is all about spiral movements," he said. "When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice."
"First, we will test you on a sacred airbending monument," the nomad boomed. "The Airbending Gates!" He sent a blast of strong air through the gates. I maneuvered around them with ease and skill. There were other tests like this, until he and the other nomads decided it was time for me to spar.
"Aang, you will now spar against Monk Gyatso." I was shocked at this statement. He had always trained me, but I had never sparred against him. He gave me a warm smile that assured me that he would go easy on me.
"Begin!"
Gyatso wasted no time hammering me into the nearest wall with a powerful gust of air. He continued to assault me while I was pinned to the wall. He stopped for a few moments, enough time for me to regain my breath. When he attacked the second time, I was ready. I immediately spun out of the way, sending back my own blast. He easily hopped over it, aiming at a pile of heavy books directly above my head. Panicking, I leaped across the room, with the aid of my bending. In midair, I was flattened by two hands of air. I landed hard on the ground. Glancing over at the Nomads, I could see the shared looks of disappointment. Monk Gyatso now rushed at me in the form of a tornado. When he came close, he stopped and stood, ready to strike. I leaped into the air, eyes closed and arms twirling in a circle. Soon after, I felt as if I was moving, but I wasn't running. It was when I heard the muffled cries of Monk Gyatso that I opened my eyes. I was on some type of air sphere, and I had just run Gyatso over with it. Without mercy, I leaped onto the ground and held my staff at his throat.
Suddenly, a blinding blue light descended from the sky. It hovered above me, and then engulfed me. By the time my eyes adjusted, I had arrows on my forehead, arms, legs, and back. The Nomads looked astonished. One of them stood and spoke.
"Congratulations, Aang, for you are now officially an Air Nomad. He bowed toward me, and I did the same. Monk Gyatso led me out.
"Tell me Aang, what do you call that move of yours?" I knew exactly which move he was talking about, but I didn't have a name for it.
"I-I call it the Air Scooter." I said proudly.
"Well, perhaps sometime you will have to teach me." He laughed, and I laughed with him.
"Perhaps I will."
