After Sam used the slider as a projectile Cat gave her that Look. It was equal parts love and resignation.

She loved Sam. There was no doubt about that. She loved her enough to put up with her childish behaviour, no matter how juvenile, even though at times she felt like she could never take a break from babysitting, whether they had a client or not. It was strange how everyone thought she was the more childish one, the one more in need of babysitting. There was a difference between her naivety and Sam's own unique brand of childishness. There were days when she felt like she had a five year old living with her.

But at night it seemed to switch. Sam suddenly had the mentality of an eighteen year old, and Cat would become the five year old, crawling into Sam's bed because of the nightmares, or thunder, or just because she didn't want to sleep alone. That was when she loved Sam most, when Sam would help her fight off whatever scared her, no matter how ridiculous or irrational her fear was. And when Sam fell asleep, her arms would almost always go from by her sides to around Cat's waist. And she helped Cat sleep better, because when Cat was in Sam's arms she was safe.

At the same time she was resigned. She knew that the five year old Sam would often come out, and Cat took the good with the bad. There was no severe reprimanding when Sam threw that slider, because she knew it wouldn't work, and, besides, it helped Lucas. But she said something, anyway, purely because Lucas was there so she could set a good example, and, yes she did find Sam's quick thinking and helpfulness to be slightly attractive...

And, no matter how childish Sam appeared to be, at the end of the day she was still her Sammy, and she wouldn't want her to be any different.
