I wrote this when I was thinking about all the stuff I had to check before I bought my new laptop. It's nothing special at all, but here goes...

All eyes followed Ruth as she carried the specimen and set it down on a table. Kaye paused braiding plastic bats into Roiben's hair and peered over curiously. Ellebere narrowed his eyes. Ravus went over to inspect, frowning at it suspiciously and Talathain was ignoring all of them (he 'wasn't to talking to' Roiben).

"What is this creature?" Ravus asked. Ruth smiled.

"Is it some kind of weapon?" Ellebere asked. Kaye snickered, but shut up when she saw his glare.

Roiben smiled (like his face was about to break). "Is it a magical mirror?" Vain, as always. Ruth shook her head, holding in a giggle.

At that moment, they heard a shriek from the door. Luis, coming in behind Corny, raised an eyebrow. Cornelius covered his mouth with his hands and gasped: "Is it really? How did you afford it?" All eyes turned to the pair. Luis shrugged, not wanting Corny to ruin his tortured, homeless-boy image and sat at the back of the shop in the darkest shadow he could find.

Corny danced over to the 'specimen,' moving like a ballerina with rickets. "Oh...my...GOD!" he squealed. "Can I touch it, please, please, pleeease?"

"Er...sure?" Ruth said, backing away as Corny lifted it up and hugged it like a teddy bear. He proceeded to sing the hallelujah chorus to himself in a very off-key, nasally voice.

(In the background)

Ellebere: what is he doing? (shakes Chinese fan in Corny's direction)

Roiben: I am not sure. Kaye?

Kaye (in a faraway voice): He's in love...

Ravus: This is too disturbing, what is going on?

Ruth and Val: (unintelligible)

Luis: Grunt

Corny, having regained his voice, shakily asks Ruth: "How much is it?"

"Three hundred and twenty," she replied. Corny yapped like a puppy.

"And the ports?"

"Four."

"Connectivity?"

"Wireless."

Corny hesitantly placed it back on the table and lifted the lid. He froze for thirty two seconds (Ellebere had a watch he'd also acquired from the Chinese shop).

"What is it?" Kaye asked. She didn't understand what he said before he dropped to the floor in a faint. "What did he say?" she asked Ruth.

"Isolated keys," she replied seriously.

"Oh. Well even I don't get that."

Ellebere shook his fan irritably. "So what is it then?" he demanded.

"DUH," said a voice. Talathain swivelled round in the stool by the bar. "It's a laptop."

"How'd you know that?" Kaye asked, noticing that Roiben was checking his reflection in the glassy surface of the laptop screen.

"What, you think I don't have one?" he said, bobbing his head at her. "I use ebay! You Unseelie are so last year!"
