Chapter 1
Lucy Heartfilia was done for. Who was late on the first day of their third highschool year?! Her, apparently. You'd think she would have learned.
She peddled faster on her bike, a piece of toast hanging out of her mouth. Her earbuds blasted the new song, Right Here by her favorite band, Fairy Tail. She mouthed the lyrics as she sharply turned, expecting to finally see the school.
But she didn't.
Instead, a light blue Lykan Hypersport was blocking her way. Her eyes practically dropped out of her sockets. Weren't those really expensive?! As she veered left, she prayed she wouldn't crash into it.
She did.
Her bike had missed most of the car. But the headlight was ruined. It skidded a few feet before coming to a stop in the nearby grass.
"Oh, I'm so screwed." Lucy put her head in her hands, shaking her head slowly. "What should I do, what should I do…"
"I hope you plan on paying for that." A voice dryly said to her right.
Lucy turned in horror to see there had been a person inside the car the whole time.
A boy her age stared back at her, his black eyes meeting her milky brown ones. His pink hair was styled messily. He was tan, and definitely not ugly. He struck her as familiar, and Lucy tilted her head, wondering where she had seen him before. Maybe on the street?
He coughed, noticing she had blanked out.
"Well?"
Lucy blinked.
"My car." He clarified. "Do you plan on paying?"
Lucy paled as she realized the situation she was in. She had just broken a car worth a few million dollars. She was doomed.
"I-I'm so sorry, I mean, I didn't see it and it was parked in the middle of the street and I totally didn't see it coming and I tried to not hit it but I did and I'm so sorry and I don't know if I could pay for something so expensive so-"
He put a hand up, and Lucy stopped talking immediately. Her eyes were wide, and she bit her lip, waiting for him to do something.
He chuckled.
She turned to him as he continued to laugh quietly.
"Wa-what?"
"Nothing. You were rambling." He pointed out.
Lucy blushed.
"I'm sorry." She said sincerely.
He shook his head and blew out a deep breath, a small smile decorating his face. But upon looking at the broken headlight, he grimaced.
"Give me your phone." He demanded.
"Why?" She shot back, hugging her phone to her chest. Her earbuds hung limp, totally forgotten. Lucy realized they must still be playing her music.
He rolled his eyes, and before she could process a thing, he grabbed the phone.
"H-hey!" Lucy yelled, lurching forward to take it back. He simply leaned back into the car, out of her reach.
Lucy gave up and watched hopelessly and he repeatedly tapped her screen. He paused to take out his phone, a Samsung Galaxy S10, and pressed something there too.
At that moment, he seemed to notice her earbuds. He took one and placed it in his ear (to the dismay of Lucy) and put up a hand to signify silence. Lucy complied, not wanting to piss off the guy with her phone. He smiled as he listened to the music.
"You like Fairy Tail?" He asked her, raising an eyebrow.
She nodded.
"Ya, they're my favorite band. I love their music."
He grinned. "What about the members?"
She grinned.
"They're amazing! I'm an amateur singer, and I would absolutely love to join Fairy Tail someday!"
He smiled, nodded and handed her back her phone. She immediately went through it, trying to find what he had done.
"Don't worry, I just added myself to your contacts. I'm under the name 'Natsu'."
Lucy took out her phone and indeed found a contact with the name "Natsu". She looked up at Natsu (she was going to assume that was his name) and she found that he was staring at her.
"We'll keep in touch." He promised with a smirk that gave her chills. He started his engine and drove away.
Oh god, what is going on!?
And, checking the time, she realized she was ten minutes late for her first class.
Upon running into her class, Lucy sighed in relief to realize that the teacher wasn't here yet. It struck her as strange, but she didn't dwell on it much. She was too busy being thankful.
As she ran to an empty seat with glee, she pulled out her phone to realize she had just about a million text messages.
"Thirty-four messages from Juvia, probably rambling about Gray. Twenty from Cana, no doubt she was drunk...eight from Dad, demanding me to come home..." She murmured to herself, before stopping as she reached a name she dreaded. "And one from Natsu."
Her heart thundered in her chest as she opened the message, and read it with dread.
I'll see you soon.
"Oh no...this is bad…"
"What is?"
Lucy couldn't stop a smile from growing on her face as her best friend, Levy, looked down at her.
Levy was the quiet bookworm-ish type. She always was lit up with a smile, and could be found in a library most days.
"It's nothing," Lucy said quickly.
Levy frowned but nodded. She went to occupy the desk to the right of Lucy.
The moment Levy sat down, the door flew open, and a smiling blond woman walked in.
"Hello students, I will be your homeroom teacher, Mrs. Mendalev."
"Good morning ." The class chorused as they scrambled to find seats. There were still a few empty desks, like the one to the left of Lucy, but the teacher didn't comment.
"One more thing. We seem to have a transfer student, who arrived only a few minutes ago." motioned for someone outside of the classroom to come inside, and upon seeing who it was, some other classmates squealed about Fairy Tail.
And that was when Lucy finally realized who he was.
"Please welcome Natsu Dragneel. Also the leader of the popular band, Fairy Tail!"
