Unbreakable
By La Fata Aurora

Synopsis: 'I've loved you forever...' A punishment. A love continually tested by time. A sin from the past reverberates to the present time, all culminating into one chance encounter in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Prologue

1427, France

Her hushed footsteps were the only interruption in the thick silence, a pair of satin flats slapping on well polished marble traversed by none a lesser material. Swishes of rich wool and velvet intermittently coupled these footsteps, the heavy fabrics now an inconvenience, but she pulled on them with gloved hands expert and elegant, a sign of her impeccable upbringing.

She breathed hard and painfully, but her eyes remained riveted up ahead, across the long nave before her. The path was long, but she must go on—this was her only option, her only means to save the most important person in her life.

Charles.

"Let him live!"

She fell on her knees as she exclaimed, breathy, and she looked up to the stoic man raised above her. She took no second to compose herself like she would normally have, and felt tears finally sting her eyes. The raised man on the crucifix looked at her kindly, said nothing, and she shook, flinching, their eyes connecting.

"Please…" she tried again, tears now pooling in her brown eyes. They fell unchecked, streams of love and beautiful memories flowing. Desperation, it bubbled in her chest and scorched her already strained veins. She reached over her chest and her fingers felt the smooth garnet stone of her pendant, clasping it tightly for dear life.

"…I'll do anything—"

Her beloved's face flashed in her mind: his onyx black eyes, his quiet smile…

"…anything."

She has always been a faithful Christian, but never had she felt an urge this strong to pray to her Maker.

"Please!" She sobbed, her fists clenching, her voice echoing in the lavish but empty chapel…

The Mosaic Tear, an exquisite treasure dating as far back as the Middle Ages, is a necklace made even more beautiful in time as it passed through various hands who were commissioned to enforce its arrangement. Documentation and scholarship suggest that its earliest roots first appeared during the reign of the Holy Roman Empire, while dating methods posit to its preliminary arrangement as simply involving the garnet pendant and a gold chain…-Excerpt from the Metropolitan Museum Journal, Vol 46, 2011

A/N: New fic! Yey! This is my first take on a Fantasy/Romance genre, so please be kind when you tell me what you think. Lol. I haven't really fully decided on the level of AU-ness (is that even a word?ha!) that this fic would see itself in, but please be rest assured that our lovable 'B' would still remain a B and our Mister Bass is still as hot as ever.

Also, as the fic would span different time periods, please forgive me in advance if any historical inconsistencies turn up. I only have the internet as my ally in this department so if any mistakes about historical background, culture and etc arise, please feel free to inform me so that I may make appropriate adjustments.

Please read and review! Thank you very much!

XOXO,
