Nothing was happening at Camp Half-Blood. Unless you count sword fighting, pegasus riding and climbing a lava-filled wall as nothing.
At one point the young heroes in training started to get bored and have decided to come up with a game that no one could possibly win. Even the gods themselves.
"But that's impossible!" Grover insisted as he and his two best fiends, Percy and Annabeth walked around camp. "You can't create a game that no one wins!"
Percy and Annabeth exchanged looks. "Grover, as much as I learned here at camp, nothing is impossible." said Percy.
"But come on Percy, that does seem a little crazy." Annabeth countered. "A game that no one wins?"
Percy raised an eyebrow. "Oh! It sounds like Wise girl here is afraid to loose."
Instantly, Annabeth's cheeks turned red. Her weakness was having too much pride and from that flaw, she could not turn down a challenge. "Fine," she grumbled, crossing her arms. "Tell how to play Sea Weed Brain."
A smile tugged at Percy's lips. As smart as Annabeth was, he felt triumphant to finally think of a way to beat her at something. "Okay, it's not that hard to play, but every half hour, you shout, 'the game' and you loose."
There was a moment of silence among the small group.
Grover blinked. "Seriously?" he asked, truly surprised by the lack of effort that is put into this. "That's it?"
Percy nodded. "See? That's how you loose."
"Wait," said Annabeth. "But if you shout 'the game' then doesn't that mean you win?"
"No," Percy answered.
This time, Grover and Annabeth exchange looks. "Well if no one wins then why would you even play The Game?" the satyr asked.
"Got anything better to do?" Percy replied.
As the day grew on, the trio, shouted 'the game' every thirty minutes. At first, the other campers were totally confused. But they went around, asking the three what in the world was going on. Then by the next day, the whole camp was in on it.
"The game!" Clarisse shouted.
The whole camp groaned and cursed in Ancient Greek.
One day, while making a delivery to camp, the god, Hermes heard about this.
"The Game?" he questioned Mr. D.
Mr. D rolled his eyes. "Yes, The Game. I could care less but apparently it is unbeatable."
Hermes scoffed. "Yeah right. Nothing is unbeatable."
"Apparently this is." said Chiron as he continued to play pinochle with Mr. D on the front porch of the Big House with Hermes standing next to them.
"Uh…should I tell Zeus about this?"
"I would not." Chiron advised. "I don't want all of New York destroyed by lightning just because he couldn't win. You know how he is."
"Well see you around." With that, Hermes disappeared.
"You know he's going to tell anyways right?" asked Mr. D.
"Don't remind me." said Chiron.
