Befriending on the Battlefront

It wasn't wonder so much as bewilderment
when he first awoke, on a battlefront

But soon he was stolen away,
swept up, not by the thrill of battle
but by the people who became his friends
he could never again leave behind

And maybe it was a fortunate, or an unfortunate
thing, that almost everyone he met became a friend
and he cared for all of them

But no matter the fear of losing them
he wouldn't give up that
for the world.
