Just a short fluffy oneshot. I haven't written a Naomily fanfic in a while so I thought I would write something short and sweet :) There isn't much of a point to this, I was just inspired by that Emily series 4 blog on the e4 website, where she says 'Short Circuit' is her favourite film, and then it just sort of became my headcanon that Emily would be really in to sci-fi and fantasy. Headcanon also says that Naomi shouts out the answers whilst watching University Challenge, the little genius that she is.
Unbeta'd, so I apologise for any mistakes.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own anything mentioned in this fic, not even a sofa. Although I own Buffy series 1-6 on DVD, and series 1-3 of Red Dwarf. I don't know why I'm telling you this. The more you know?
Naomi never would have guessed it when she first met Emily, but Emily was a massive film buff. Like, really, really into films. Most of the DVDs in the Fitch's living room belonged to her. Not just the films, but also multiple TV boxsets. Buffy (she felt a strong connection to Willow), Xena (what a badass), Red Dwarf (Rimmer's self-importance reminded her of Katie) and Star Trek (have you seen Uhura?) were particular favourites of hers.
Naomi, however, didn't even own a TV until she was 14, (her mum thought they were evil) (that was until she discovered House and her student crush on Hugh Laurie reignited with a vengeance), and even then, Naomi only ever used it to watch the news and Question Time, although she was admittedly quite fond watching University Challenge with her mum..
Needless to say, Emily's TV watching habits baffled her. Personally, Naomi would rather read a good book, and none of that Harry Potter nonsense either. Milan Kundera's 'An Unbearable Lightness of Being' – now there's a good book.
So how Naomi came to be cuddled up on the sofa with Emily watching 'The Princess Bride', she had no idea. Emily just seemed to have that affect on her. It actually wasn't a bad way to spend the evening, curled up with Emily, whose head was resting on Naomi's chest whilst Naomi played gently with Emily's hair with one hand, with the other wrapped around Emily's waist. The movie wasn't too bad, either, although Naomi found herself relating to the little boy who's grandfather was reading the book: apprehensive at first, but slowly falling for it's charm.
Towards the end, she found herself positively enjoying it. (It didn't hurt that the princess was insanely attractive) (Not as attractive as Emily) (Naomi was pretty sure Emily was the most beautiful person in the world). (She couldn't say that too Katie, though. Identical twins, an' all.)
After it finished, Naomi had asked why Emily enjoyed films so much more than books, because Naomi was sure that books were pretty much the greatest things ever. (Besides Emily.)
"Because you can see their faces," Emily replied. "In books, the narrator always has to tell us how the characters feel. We're told pretty much everything. But in films, we can see it. We can see it in their eyes. We knew that Wesley was in love with Buttercup before we were told, because we could see it in his eyes." Naomi pondered this for a moment, before concluding that it was actually a very good point.
"But you know Princess Bride was originally a book, right?" Naomi couldn't resist it.
"Fucking smart arse," Emily replied, jabbing Naomi's shoulder.
"I love you too."
Reviews are pretty great, eh.
