The Meaning of Christmas

"_, would you like to come to my home sometime?" Kiku asked. "Oh, sure I'd like that." You replied. Kiku nodded in turn.

That next day, Kiku had realized he should probably issue a day so since Christmas was coming up anyways, he figured he should ask you to come spend Christmas with him. You two met up and he discussed his thoughts. "That sounds great; I would love to spend Christmas Day with you."

So the weekend before Christmas, you were out shopping for a Christmas present for your boyfriend, Kiku. You were roaming around trying to think of the best thing to get him despite the fact that you were broke. You then came across a beautiful dog collar. You knew how much he loved that dog.

But what could you buy it with? Then you remembered the gold chain around your neck. Your mother told you that if you needed to sell it for any reason whatsoever, that you had to do it out of love. And you did love Kiku…So you sold your gold chain to buy the dog collar.

You arrived at his house on Christmas morning, carrying the small box. He opened the door with a small but meaningful smile. "Konichiwa _." "Konichiwa yourself, Kiku." You happily replied. You sat down with him and exchanged gifts, and the moment you both opened your presents you burst into tears.

He had given you a locket pendant with a picture of the both of you in it to go on the chain you had previously owned. It was for the same gold chain, which you had prized so highly. In turn he was broke and sold his dog, a creature he adored beyond belief to buy your locket. They hugged each other warmly; you now had a locket to compliment your chain that you no longer owned and he had a dog collar without a dog to show it off. But it was the thought that mattered. Above all, this proved that they loved each other so much they had given up their own prized possessions to get each other something to compliment the other's prize. They smiled knowing that their love is the most precious gift of all.
