A bit about me

This is a revised version of the original chapter. I wrote this story when I was very young. It had loads of grammar mistakes, and a unbalanced continuum (I still have problems today -_-). However, I had the sudden urge to improve and expand on my old fan fiction. I hope this brings in new fans, as well as old. This is the official RE: The way we get By series!

Meeting a particular person can alter your life forever, for better or worse.

Chapter 1

THE way we MET

"This…fucking…sucks!" Roxas aggressively threw his bags on the cold plastic bus bench, then angrily seated himself next to them.

"Oh come on, it's not that bad," said the brunette as he took a seat adjacent to the angered boy. "It's better than home right?"

Roxas scoffed. "Yeah, real better," he said sarcastically. "I love the streets."

"We'll find something out," said the brunette hopefully. "I bet we'll find a place to stay in no time."

The angered boy looked to the brunette.

"Sora," started Roxas calmly. "We have been kicked to the streets for three days now. We ran out of food, because you decided to eat it all in one day." His voice raised. "We don't have money, we don't have food. So can you stop with your optimistic bullshit for a second, and see WE ARE TOTALLY SCREWED?"

"We may not have money and something to eat. But it's not like we have nothing!" Sora directed his hands towards their bags. We have our clothes and stuff."

Roxas sighed heavily, and turned to his side away from Sora.

Sora glanced at Roxas' back, then sunk down in the seat with a frown. "We are... totally screwed."

"Demyx, what the hell are we gonna eat for dinner!" Yelled the red head as he played with his lighter.

"Um, don't we have food in the refrigerator?" Said the dirty blonde peaking from the other room with his exceptionally large sitar strapped over his shoulder.

"Yeah," said the red head lifting himself from the couch. "Expired milk, empty beer bottles, and day old slice of pizza." He gestured to the kitchen. "Want some?"

"Actually… I ate the pizza," the dirty blonde raised his hand guiltily.

The red head slummed back on the couch with a frustrated sigh.

"Demyx go to the market will ya?"

"I'm actually kinda in the middle of writing a song. I really need to make a good impression for my jo-"

"You been doing that all day," stated Axel. "Go get some fresh air. And food!"

Demyx pouted then removed his sitar from over his body.

"Fine, but isn't it kind of late? I mean its already nine-ten," said Demyx checking his wrist watch."We live in the shady part of town Axel," he said timidly. "What if there's like a drug exchange or a rapist?"

"You'll be fine," said the red head doing a shoo motion with his hand.

Demyx sighed as he properly put his sitar up and grabbed his wallet.

"And oh hey!" don't forget the pack of smokes while you're out," the red head said as he flicked his lighter. "And don't get me a shitty brand this time."

"Axel you should really lay off the smoking," Demyx said shaking his head.

"I'm an adult, I can do what I want," sung Axel as he twisted his lighter between his fingers.

"Okay, I'm leaving then."

It was warm tonight. The stars gleamed brightly, as Demyx strolled around the block to reach the nearest market. Even though Axel truly wanted him to leave the house to get food. Demyx was happy he listened to him, not knowing himself, that he needed this.

Stressing over the fact that they couldn't pay this month's rent again was killing him. He had been cooped in house for days applying for jobs. Knowing that Axel was picking up his slack without complaining was even more concerning. Right now, he just wants to forget about it, and hope for the best.

"Thanks," said Demyx grabbing his bags and receipt.

He left the store with with a enough groceries to fill them over for about three days, and of course Axel's cigarettes.

"This will have to do for now," Demyx sighed.

At times like this, Demyx wonders if dropping out of college with Axel was a great idea. Though the house was relatively cheap, it still took most of their savings to by it. It probably would have been smarter to stay with one of their friends at an apartment and split rent. But that's not what they wanted. They decided that day, they were going to prove everyone wrong, and be independent.

[Past]

"College…it's just not my thing." The tip of his cigarette glowed fiery orange. As he breathed out, smoke poured from between his lips.

"What about you, huh?"

"Me?" Questioned Demyx. "Well-I just…I guess I," Demyx stopped and thought. After a moment, his face turned to sorrow. "I was... never…really cut out for it."

Axel threw his cigarette on the floor the brutally crushed it beneath his feet; putting out the orange fiery glow. He smiled and patted Demyx on the shoulder.

"Looks like we're both drop outs then, huh Demyx?"

[Past..End]

"Ahhhhh!" Shouted Demyx, nearly tripping over a deformed section of the sidewalk. "That was close."

He glanced in the bags. An item was missing. "Axel's cigarettes," said Demyx.

He searched around the ground to find the red heads source of addiction. Finally, he spotted it. It tumbled far down the walkway. Demyx ran to it happily, and crouched down to picked it up. He dusted it off and returned it the grocery bag. Suddenly he heard a heavy breathing. It was close, and it was above him. Demyx was scared, he didn't want to look. He knew there'd be something freaky or scary out here this late. The breathing grew louder. Demyx squeezed his eyes shut and wrapped his arms over his legs. Stupid Axel, I told you! You should have came with me!

Demyx quickly calmed himself. Ok I'll just run. They can't get me if I run. Alright...on the count of three. One...two...

His eyes shot open, Demyx was ready to blast off running home. Until he realized just before he thought three, he was alone.

Demyx stood up looking around to see if anyone witnessed his embarrassing moment. "He he, I guess I was just freaking myself ou-"

He froze. Just a few feet in front of him, he saw two boys. One resting sideways on the arm of the bench, and the other curled around him.

"What the…"

Demyx ran over to them, leaving the bags of groceries behind. He gulped in fear.

Are they…are they dead? Demyx thought.

His hand quivered as he went to touch there bodies."Hey," said Demyx shaking the two lightly. "Are you...a-alive?"

They didn't respond.

"H-Hey! Wake up, come on!" Demyx shook them weakly.

Demyx bit his lower lip. These kids really might be dead!

Just as Demyx thought this, one of the children's eyes opened. They were eyes of the ocean. A gloss of liquid coated them as he blinked wearily.

"Huh? No mom! Give me like...five more minutes," the boy said sluggishly.

Demyx removed his hands. He felt relieve consume his body, and he smiled. But suddenly, the boy eyes became wide, and alert.

"P-p-per….v-ve…perv," the boy try to say.

"W-wait," said Demyx putting up his hands.

"PERVERT!"

"I'm n-not," Demyx said shaking his head furiously.

"It's a pervert! Roxas wake up he's gonna rape us!" shrieked the boy rocking the other back and fourth continuously.

"I swear, I'm not!" Said Demyx glancing frantically around. "Please stop yelling."

"Why so you can kidnap me?" Said the brunette covering his chest. "HELP!"

The other boy, was now awake and utterly pissed."What the hell are you yelling for Sora?" He erupted.

"I told you! There is a pervert trying to rape us!" he pointed at Demyx. "He was watching us sleep! And I think he was touching me!"

Roxas shot Demyx a sinister glare that gave him a chill from his spine down to his soul.

"I…it was a misunderstanding I swear!" Demyx explained nervously.

"Why are you here?" Questioned Roxas.

"I-I was on my way home. I was coming from the grocery store, and I saw you two. I just wanted to know if you were okay." Demyx pointed to the bags recklessly laying on the ground. "See there's my grocery's!"

"And you except us to believe that," said Roxas narrowing his eyes. "I don't," Sora crossed his arms and pouted.

"I'm not lying, I was just trying to help."

"Who goes food shopping this late at night?" Said Roxas.

"Who sits at bus benches this late at night?" Retorted Demyx.

Roxas turned away, and Sora lowered his head.

"We were kick out." Mumbled the brunette. Roxas jabbed him in the gut.

"Ow!" Said Sora rubbing his stomach.

Demyx body tensed up. He could process or think, but felt a ache in his heart.

"Oh." There was a long silence. A warm breeze from summers air flew by, causing Sora to sneeze. Demyx frowned.

These kids were kicked out their house? They're so young, to young. Nobody should have to sleep out here scared and cold with no warm bed to sleep in.

"You guys can…come with me if you want." Demyx suddenly felt emotional. "You shouldn't be out here at this age, it's not safe. You can spend the night and we'll figure it out in the morning."

The boys exchanged looks.

"Well," started Sora. "Do you promise your not a pervert?" asked Sora scanning Demyx's body.

"Of course."

"What do you think Roxas?" asked Sora nudging him.

Roxas looked up at Demyx who was awkwardly smiled at him.

"I guess, we can stay for the night," Roxas said slouching.

Demyx broke into a smile.

"But if you try something, I won't hesitate to kick your ass," the boy warned.

Demyx chuckled nervously, then looked to both of them. "Alright, it's a deal."

Demyx went back to get the grocery bags, then met the two back at the bus stop. Their luggage bags were in hand.

"My house is just strait ahead."

"Ok then, let's go," said Sora walking before Demyx could lead them.

The boys left behind the cold plastic bus bench, following the kind stranger to his home. The two knew that trusting a stranger was stupid and dangerous for many reasons. Somehow they knew this particular man was honestly just looking to help.

"Oh wait," Demyx said stopping them. "What's your guys names?"

Sora pointed at his chest."I'm Sora!" He answered cheerfully. The other boy responded slowly say, "...Roxas."

"Nice to meet you two, I'm Demyx."

They walked the sidewalk in the summer night, abandoning the cold bench that started it all.
