FIRST HUNT.
I made my way to the fence, mindful of the Peacekeepers, scared because it was the first time on my own, first time after my father's, just thinking about it brought tears to my eyes.
I almost turned back and headed away from the fence, before I remembered Prim's hollow cheeks and empty stomach.
Book in hand, I ducked inside the fence and entered the fence, immediately hiding behind a massive oak tree. The first thing I saw when I reached the log where my father kept our bows and arrows was a single yellow weed, a dandelion and hope filled me and I picked up the bow and quiver and suddenly I felt as if my dad was standing right behind me, as always, instructing me. However, I could not make it more than ten trees away before I felt scared all over again. Had I not seen the rabbit, at that moment I would have gone home empty handed.
It was not my dad's clean shot through the eye but it was clean enough, however I threw a knife at it before approaching it cautiously.
