Hotch is meeting Emily's mom for the first time and Emily doesn't like the tie he's wearing. H/P

there is a battle that goes on between men and women. Many people call it love. -Edvard Munch.

Emily paced the floor... over and back, over and back... for what seemed like hours before the bedroom door creaked and swung open.

Emily's head snapped up as Aaron Hotchner walked out dressed in a perfect black suit with a crisp white shirt and shoes that had been polished to perfection.

To most people he would have looked perfect, and on a normal day he would have looked perfect to Emily to... but today wasn't a normal day, so he wasn't perfect.

"You can't wear that tie." She stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"What?" Hotch said looking down at the tie. "What's wrong with it?"

At this comment Emily raised an eyebrow at him and pointed to her dress.

"Aaron my dress is fire engine red... that tie is more of a maroon colour." She said wrinkling her nose.

"And... there both shades of red sweetheart." He said walking over and placing his hand on her cheek to sooth her.

She slapped it away however and sent him death glares.

"Listen 'sweetheart' we are going to one of my mother's functions tonight, and not only that but it's the first time she's going to meet you since we became a couple so ALMOST the same shade won't cut it." She said, sounding both stressed and angry.

"Well what do you want me to do?" he asked.

If he was honest he was getting quite scared at how worked up she was getting... she did after all own a gun!

"I'll give you three guesses at what I want you to do and the first two don't count." She hissed sarcastically.

He was tempted to ask did she want him to stay home and watch the game that was meant to be on but he then spotted her gun on the counter and decided against it.

"Um... I'll go get another one shall I." He said.

"That'd be the smart thing to do." She replied, tapping her foot impatiently.

"What if I don't have the right colour tie?" he asked before he re-entered the room.

This caused Emily to drop the pissed of look that had been on her face and start to laugh.

"Aaron, I've worked with you for almost five years and you've never worn the same tie twice... so go in there and come back out with a fire engine red tie!" she ordered, pushing him into the room again.

She then sat down on the edge of the couch and waited for what felt like hours as he looked for a tie she'd be happy with.

She could picture him looking through his – colour co-ordinated – tie rack for the perfect one and the image did make her smile... just a bit though.

Finally he came back out wearing a fire engine red tie and a hopeful look on his face.

"This ok?" he asked looking down at himself.

"That's perfect sweetheart." She said as she stood up. "Now hurry we're already late."

"Right then... let's go before you find something else to moan about." He said teasingly.

"Oh be quite." She said slapping his chest playfully as he put his arm around her waist.

"I love you." He said kissing the top of her head as they reached the door.

"Aw I know you do... and I love you to." She said moving closer to him as they walked down the hall. "But don't think I've forgiven you for making us late."

Voila... what'd ya'll think? =)
