A Drag-Race Gone Wrong

A "STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE" SHORT FAN-FICTION

Featuring LEMON MERINGUE and BLUEBERRY MUFFIN

Berry Bitty City Motor Speedway - 7:45 PM

Two girls are in go-karts, preparing to test their engines in a drag-race. Several berrykins scurry about, gassing up the karts, replacing tires, and checking the karts for damage. One of the girls, Blueberry Muffin, turns toward her partner, Lemon Meringue. She knew that they were in for something big. Literally.

Blueberry: I hope you're ready for this, Lemon.

Lemon: We'll see, Blueberry. We...will see.

Blueberry: Watch out for that kickback from the engine. It'll knock you back into the seat unless you keep your head back.

Lemon: Good to know.

The girls start their engines. The berrykins back off from the karts, knowing full well they would have their arms torn off if they were ran over. A signal light switched on from red, to yellow, to green. Then, the karts blasted off the line in a furious blaze of smoke. They sought to overtake each over along the first few miles. Before long, they reached 200 mi/hr. Blueberry was the first to brake. She slowed down to a stop after the parachutes deployed. However, Lemon was having trouble. Various error light popped up on her dashboard. It occurred to her at that moment that something was wrong. Luckily, she had a back-up plan.

Seconds before hitting the wall, she tapped her hair-clip. She instantly shot out of the kart, tearing her safety belts off in doing so. Her racing jacket turned into a high speed jet pack. She slowed down to a hover as the kart crashed into the wall.

Blueberry: (over headset) Lemon! Are you okay?

Lemon: Yes. I'm fine. Can't say the same thing for my kart, though!

Just then, an explosion riddled the kart in a fiery blaze. A piece of the kart was flying towards Lemon, who dodged it just in time. The piece continued to sail in the air before landing in a pit of sand.

Lemon: That was close!

Lemon hovered down to the ground, away from the blaze that once was her kart. Blueberry stood next to her.

Blueberry: (perplexed) I don't think you'll be using that kart again.

Lemon: Ditto for me.

Blueberry: (turns to Lemon) Did Strawberry rig that jet-pack in your suit?

Lemon: (thinking) How did she know?
