Oh yeah, we all heard that line in the OotP movie. "Nice one, James!" I'd been wanting to write a one-shot about it for awhile but had never gotten around to it. Mainly because I didn't know what to put. Here's hoping it meets the standard my regular reviewers will hold it to.

Warnings: none

Disclaimer: It's all JK's. All of it. You know, except that one line someone from Warner Bros put in, but all the rest of it's JK's. Damn.

thoughts

...

"Nice one, James!"

He called me James. But he's not James. No, not James Potter. He's Harry Potter.

"He's not James, Sirius."

Exactly. Did Sirius know? Really know? Harry'd thought he did. He was always so different from his father.

Harry didn't like pranks; Harry didn't hex people for the fun of it. Harry had green eyes and odd scars. Harry was not James.

"But I sometimes think Ron's mum's right, and Sirius gets confused about whether you're you or your father, Harry."

All those times they'd talked, was Sirius talking to his dead friend? Was he trying to speak to Prongs through Harry? Harry hoped not. Sirius was his father figure, and Harry desperately wanted to think that he was a bit of a stand-in son, not a stand-in best friend, not his father's replacement.

"You're less like your father than I thought. The risk would've made it fun for James."

What if Harry didn't like risking people like that? What if Harry only wanted to keep Sirius safe? What if Harry wanted Sirius to stay out of Azkaban? Would the fun of the risk have been worth it when an innocent man was dragged back to hell, given the dementor's kiss?

"Nice one, James!"

"Nice one, James!"

"Nice one, James!"

"...James!"

"He called me James." Harry looked at the photo in his album. Sirius, his godfather. "I'm not James." He closed the book and clutched it to his chest, tears falling silently. "I'm Harry. Just Harry." Not James.

...

So, what'd you think? It's short, granted, but I didn't want it to be long. I wanted it to be sort of drabble-y.

"The sentences written like this" are direct quotes from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix the book, except "Nice one, James!" which is from the movie.
