Avenger sighed as he closed the front door of the Malibu beach house. It was a sunny day and the temperature was perfect.
The other team members had gone off to make the most of the day, leaving Avenger to sit in the uncannily quiet house.
Avenger gently tapped away at his phone, finishing a previous text that he had started. After that he opened one of his favorite apps.
Fire Emblem Heroes. Avenger was a bit of a fan of the Fire Emblem series, enough so that he shelled out at least forty dollars into the phone game.
What Avenger didn't expect was to feel a faint bit of magic seep from his phone screen. As the app started up, the magic intensified.
The screen went white as Avenger tapped the start button, filling the room in blinding light.
He was then thrown into a whirling vortex of blue and gold streaks. He was helpless to escape the summoning as he plummeted down the dizzying vortex.
Avenger quickly glared at his phone as he was pulled through the summoning. Shoving the piece of technology in his pocket, Avenger waited for the summoning to finish.
After a full fifteen minutes of ear splitting travel the vortex flushed white again.
Suddenly, only the sound of birds chirping and the wind filled Avenger's ears.
"Ooh! You're here? Then the ritual actually worked?"
And the sound of a woman. Avenger quickly glanced at his surroundings, finding himself in some kind of temple ruin.
Avenger looked over at the source of the voice. A woman in white and gold armor stood a few feet away, seemingly getting ready to deliver a speech.
"Ahem... Oh Great Hero from another world! Thou hast come so far to fulfill your role in our legend! For our kingdom now stands on the very brink of ruin, and thou... And thou..."
Avenger crossed his arms as the woman trailed off. Silence began to take hold before Avenger spoke.
"And what? If you're going to ask if I'm really your hero, drop it. I'm all you're getting for now."
The woman was taken aback by his words, making Avenger crack a tiny smirk.
Luckily Avenger knew the events of the first book in the game, therefore he had the upper hand.
"FOUND YOU!"
Avenger's eyes drifted towards the soldier sprinting towards him and the woman, their axe raised high.
The woman drew an axe from her belt as the soldier approached. Avenger drew a shadow sword at the same time.
"Drat! How did one of thoseEmblians get here already? Stand back! I'll take care of him somehow!"
The woman shouted as the soldier leaped forwards. The woman lifted her axe, deflecting the blow of the soldier.
"I don't need your protection!"
Avenger snapped as he moved forward at inhuman speeds, slicing the soldier's arm clean off.
The woman took a step back as the soldier's body fell to it's knees then to the ground.
"Whoa! You sure took care of him! My name's Anna. I'm the commander of the Order of Heroes! We belive that-"
"Heroes should live free, yadda yadda. Now, I believe that we have an army to fight?"
Avenger cut the woman named Anna off, seemingly stamping out her fire. She pouted as she sheathed her axe and brought out another object.
It was roughly the shape of a gun, with golden accents and white paint. It radiated with a strange power, one that Avenger found was strangely similar to his own.
"Fine. I summoned you here with the divine Breidablik. That's the name of this relic I've brought. It fires something out of it, according to legend, but Breidablik doesn't look like any bow I've ever seen."
Avenger took the relic, gently moving it up and down. It wasn't too heavy, but it was a chore to lift with human strength.
"It resembles a gun. A weapon from more highly advanced worlds."
Avenger informed. Anna made a face of awe at the information, making it clear that a world with technology beyond a bow was new to her.
"I guess it's all yours now. Hopefully you can figure out how-"
"THERE SHE IS! GET HER!"
Anna was cut off by more soldiers, making her draw her axe. Avenger quickly clipped Breidablik to his belt and raised his sword.
"Drat. More of those Emblian soldiers. I can't defeat them all by myself. Could you lend a hand?"
Avenger made a devilish grin as he and Anna advanced, making Anna nervous.
Something was off about this man. It made Anna shiver when she looked at his grin.
"Gladly."
