I hope you like my 'little' Indy poem. Happy reading (and hopefully reviewing, too). ^.^
*The Adventurer*
I hung from the precipice by one single thread
Struggling to breath 'neath the gathering dread
And lo, from above me I hear the sound
Of a snap, and a gunshot, and a thud on the ground
Looking up fearfully and biting my lip
Ever-hoping that I will not lose my grip
My eyes meet a shadow of comforting brown
That melds into man as it bends farther down
And reaching outward with warm, weathered hand
Pulls me up from the danger until I can stand
His fedora brim shades a lopsided smile
I won't be able to thank him for a while
For we're interrupted by attackers behind
And, as it were, we ducked just in time
Above our heads whizzed a punch through the air
The Nazi, in anger, turned to see if we dare
Attempt to elude his bombardment again
But instead felt a blow from my adventurous friend
A whip in his hand and a glint in his eye
He challenged and asked, "Okay, who wants to die?"
A few of them hastily stepped up to the plate
And when reconsidered, found it was too late
The rest stared in horror at the smoke of the gun
And decided to take their chances and run
They disappeared into the distance and then
I was about to say something but stopped myself when
At the command of a whistle followed by nervous laugh
An ivory steed thundered down darkening path
It stopped in a flurry of hooves, pebbles and sand
The adventurer mounted then extended his hand
I perched behind him upon dappled flank
And we galloped west as the golden sun sank . . .
Waking up from the light of curtains drawn
I saw I'd fallen asleep with the TV on
Looked out through the window to the top of a hill
To find that my soul went away to him still
As I was surrounded by warmth and enfolded
In wondrous dreams . . . and then scolded
It seems I've been daydreaming — alas!
The white-tailed horse flies away fast
Leaving behind bittersweet memory
Of the whip-wielding hero who'd come to save me
From the engulfing monotony of yet one more day
Whisking the storm-cloud of dreariness safely away
The End! (until next time . . .) ;p
