Deny-
Violet knows Veruca hates being denied things.
Like dignity. And possessions, of course, and objects; pets and clothes and toys. She hates being denied material things. But dignity is something different. Dignity is something everyone should have. This is not to say Veruca doesn't have a sort of stubborn, self-sustained sort of pride. She has, in abundance, ego. But she divines it from a singular source in her mind, instead of the outside, like most people. She is supplied endlessly with items, but simultaneously deprived of independence. She was never weaned from her parents. She was never given the chance to fail, to fall and them build herself back up again. A broken bone is stronger once healed, the saying goes.
But Violet too contributes to this cycle.
"Stop practicing your chewing and go to the party with me."
"Do this arithmetic problem for me."
"Give me your drink."
And Violet complies. And Veruca doesn't learn. So Violet resolves to deny Veruca. When she asks for something, Violet will say no. Simple as that. And Veruca will have to learn how to cope without. Violet knows that she has to stop giving in, not for her benefit, but for Veruca's.
But when she comes up behind Violet, and breathes on the nape of her neck, and presses her nude collarbone to Violet's shoulder blade, Violet develops a sudden inability to say no.
