"Auugh!" A greasy haired boy let the objects around him explode in anger. The Marauders (as the four idiotic Gryffindors Potter, Black, Lupin, and Pettigrew called themselves) had been bullying him mercilessly since his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Yet he could not do anything about it since the Headmaster put if off as "boys being boys". The staff also tended to ignore it, only giving them detention from time to time.

Not to mention it got worse since he called Lily a "mudblood" in a fit of anger a year ago when humiliated. She still had not forgiven him, even when he had begged and pleaded. His Slytherin doormates only talked to him about the Dark Lord and things like that. They did not bully him anymore, not since the Dark Lord had taken interest in his Potion making skills.

Only one truly cared for him anymore.

"Severus?" A girl melodious voice called from behind him. It was her. Iris Violet Evans. She was the younger twin sister of Lily Evans, and a Ravenclaw, to boot. One might assume that Lily was the smartest and prettiest in her year at first glance, when in reality, Iris was.

While Lily had a medium auburn hair that reached her waist, as well as sparkling emerald eyes, Iris had blood red hair with ocean blue eyes, with specks of aqua in it.

They were nearly identical, if not for the shade of red hair, and eyes.

Iris was far more smarter than Lily ever had been. She had scored 12 O.W.L.s (all O's), after all, while Lily had scored 9 O's and one E. Though many of his housemates were reluctant to admit it, they respected Iris Evans, for she had changed a lot of their views on muggleborns. She had befriended Narcissa Black back in her first year, who had taught her about the Old Ways and pureblood traditions and customs, gaining protection from the other Slytherins. After all, everyone knew to never cross a Black, or you might not live to see the next day.

When Lily had not forgiven him, Iris had. He remembered the first day they had met, like it was just yesterday.

Flashback

"Who're you?" There was a boy in big clothes (probably his parents') with long black hair staring at two nearly identical twins, one who looked at him in wonder, and the other looked at him in suspicion.

The younger Lily narrowed her eyes at him in distrust, while the younger Iris looked at him thoughtfully and questionably. The twins had looked nearly identical before coming to Hogwarts, back when they were around 9-10. Both girls' hair were a medium-dark shade of auburn, and both their eyes were sea-green.

Ignoring the warnings of ignorance, Severus couldn't help but blurt out, "You're witches, aren't you?"

The younger Lily looked like she was about to cry, no doubt that nobody had told her she looked like a witch before, and cried out," That's not very nice!"

The younger Iris, on the other hand, looked at him with an odd expression on her face, before her eyes widened in understanding.

Taking a step towards him, and ignoring Lily's cry of warning, she softly said, 'You mean magic, don't you?" She tilted her head towards the side, making her look adorable. Extending her hand out she introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Iris, Iris Violet Evans, and that," she indicated her head at Lily, "is my older twin sister, Lily Rose Evans. Pleased to meet you," She said with a grin.

He could not help but blush softly. "I'm Severus Snape," He said awkwardly, and that was the beginning of a friendship.

Flashback Ends

Lily had warmed up to him afterwards, but Iris had trusted him from the start.

When Lily had abandoned him, he felt hurt. Hurt because of one word, one word, and their six friendship was over. Because no matter how much he blamed himself that it was his fault, he knew it was her fault as much as it was his. Lily, after all, had started distancing herself from him, spent less time with him. Iris, with all her friends, still made time for him no matter what. He felt his heart tighten at the thought.

The Halloween Ball was coming up tomorrow, on November 1st. He did not have anyone to ask to go with. It turned out that Lily was going with James Potter, the one who had bullied him for six years. Severus felt really bitter that Lily of all people, would go with someone who had bullied him ever since he stepped into Hogwarts. But that was all she was, wasn't she? He laughed mirthlessly at the thought. Once upon a time, he might have loved her.

But his heart belonged to someone else.

Praying to Merlin that she wasn't already going with someone else, he turned to Iris and asked, "Will you, Ms. Iris Evans, go to the Halloween Ball on Sunday the 14th with me?"

Her blinding smile she gave him was her answer.
