Bella's Notes: Okay, tell me what you think. I know no one has ever done anything with this pairing, but I thought I would. This is the sequel to "Sorry seems to be the Hardest Word." Underneath it all
They held hands as they walked through the park. It was spring and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The kids ran through the park playing tag and laughing. They both smiled as they sat on the bench watching happily remembering the past with fondness. They had found their way to each other by happen chance, it was totally unexpected, and a shock to them both, but they were happy.
"You know when I fell in love with you." He asked her and he pulled her close, placing a kiss on her forehead and the nuzzled her hair with his nose.
"When…when did you fall in love with me?" She said as she looked up into his eyes. A bright, warm smile appeared on her lips, her brilliant blue eyes twinkled, and she gave him a content sigh.
"I fell for you when we sat here in the park, in this very same spot, three weeks after the incident that changed our lives." He said as he watched the kids run by happily and held her in his arms.
"That's when I fell in love with you too." She replied happily.
"You helped me when I was all alone. You understood me, comforted me and held my while I cried." Her eyes following the kids running in the park, "The first time you came back and knocked on my door, I thought something was wrong. I thought maybe Aizen had come back from the dead or something worse, but you just wanted to talk." She leaned closer to him, snuggling into the warmth his body had to offer.
He looked over toward the child and signed, "You were the only one who knew how I felt. We both had no family to turn to only friends who could listen and tell us what they thought we needed to hear. Sure, we had other relationships, but nothing as special as the times we would come here and talk….and cry."
He paused briefly before continuing, "You never judged me; you comforted me and accepted me." He ran his hand up and down her arm lovingly. "When the day came and I worked up the nerve to ask you out for the first time, the smile on your face when you accepted made my heart race…the rest was a blur." He looked down at her and noticed she was smiling ear to ear. "No one really saw this coming…Hell, even we didn't see this coming, but it was a pleasant surprise and I'm happy that it did." He smiled and She looked up into his eyes. He slowly brought his lips down onto hers in a tender kiss. He gently brushed her bottom lip and the kiss deepened. She gave him a satisfied moan and he pulled her closer.
"Daddy, Mommy…Look whose coming, it's Uncle Ichigo and Aunt Rukia." The little read hair girl and boy said in unison as they ran towards their parents.
Renji broke away from his wife, Orihime and smiled, giving her another loving hug before they got up to greet their friends. Yes, it was a relationship formed from comfort and pain. However, what they found during the process of healing was acceptance and belonging, friendship and family, love and respect. They cherished the love they found in each other and held it dear. And even though they had longed from something that would never be and pain consumed the better part of their lives, they still found their way to each other and found love….Underneath it all.
