~When Wu was five years old, he was energetic and curious. He loved his older brother, though he was often forgotten...

"Garmadon! Watch me, Garmadon!" Wu squealed.

"Not now, brother." Garmadon replied, leaning against a wall with a quill and parchment.

"Garmadon!" Wu squealed again.

"I said not now." Garmadon repeated as he began writing something.

Wu huffed in exasperation as he walked towards his older brother.

"What's so important that I must wait for you to finish?" He asked in a cocky tone.

"It's called homework. You should try it sometime." Garmadon replied, remaining calm through his annoyance.

"But Garmadon-"

"I said not now, brother." Garmadon said, slightly raising his voice as he continued to write.

Wu huffed as he sat on the ground messing with a stick.

"Ya know, if you were the little brother and I was older than you, I would competely ignore you cause you're mean!" Wu crossed his arms.

"Cool. Good for you." Garmadon muttered.

"You aren't even listening to me!" Wu squealed.

"Mhm..." Garmadon muttered. He continued to write and occasionally look up at the sky.

"Alrighhtttt, I'm gonna go mess with the golden weapons now." Wu said, trying to see if his older brother was listening.

"Mmk."

Wu huffed again. "I'm gonna go mess with all the parchment in your room then smear your ink all over the walls and blame it on you."

"Have fun." Garmadon still hadn't looked up from his paper.

"I'm gonna go jump off the monastery roof." Wu looked up slightly to see Garmadon glaring at him.

"Wu... don't think I don't know what you're trying to pull here," Garmadon kneeled to Wu's height. "look, give me 10 minutes to finish what I'm doing, then I promise I will watch you. Ok?"

"Mmm... how about 5 minutes?"

"You can't just take my time and half it!" Garmadon laughed slightly. Wu lauged as well.

"Why not? I just did." Wu smirked.

Garmadon sighed heavily, "Fine, 5 minutes it is."

Wu sat patiently as the 5 minutes turned to 10. The 10 minutes turned into an hour. The hour turned into 4 hours, and by that time it was evening.

"Alright, Wu. I'm finished." Garmadon folded up his parchment. He looked next to him where Wu had been sitting before, but he wasn't there. "Wu?" Garmadon searched the area, but Wu was nowhere to be found. He went inside to search, and eventually found Wu locked in his bedroom crying in a corner.

"Wu?"

"Go away!"

"Wu.. look, I'm sorry I lost track of time." Garmadon walked closer to the young blonde.

"Go away! I hate you." Wu continued crying. He didn't want to hear anything his brother had to say. Garmadon had broken a promise, and Wu had again been ignored.

Garmadon nodded and left, respecting his brother's wishes.

~When Wu was 8, he was fierce, yet cowardly and slightly full of himself...

"Fight me!" Wu shouted, standing in a fighting pose.

"This again?" the eleven-year-old brunette rolled his eyes.

"Garmadooonnn... you promisseeeddd..." Wu whined.

"I knoooowwwww... ever heard of chores?" Garmadon held up the broom he was sweeping with.

"Ever heard of brothers before mothers... chores?" Wu said, struggling to rhyme.

Garmadon laughed. "What the heck was that supposed to be? And your stance is wrong."

"Aye! I can stand in whatever stance I want! I'm better than you, anyhow." Wu smirked.

"Mmm how bout no."

"I challenge you! But you have to fight with the broom."

"And what'll that prove?" Garmadon asked, raising an eyebrow.

"It'll prove," Wu paused for a moment. "I dunno... but you still have to anyway."

"If I'm using the broom, you have to use the mop." Garmadon pointed to a mop in the corner of the kitchen.

"Ok, and that'll only prove I'm better than you still." Wu set his fathers katana on the table and grabbed the mop from the corner.

Both boys stood in their fighting stances, then began to fight.

"Ya know, Wu... you're too full of yourself," Garmadon muttered, as he effortlessly disarmed Wu. "maybe try being less full of yourself and spend all that time training to get better."

"Y-y-you know nothing, Garmadon! Ha, I was just warming up!" Wu grabbed the katana.

"Wu... that isn't a good idea. Especially not in this small area." Garmadon warned.

"You're just scared cause you only have a broom." Wu stuck his tongue out.

Garmadon rolled his eyes, "Fine. If someone gets hurt, don't say I didn't warn you."

They began to fight once more. Garmdon was trying to avoid the sharp blade of the katana rather than disarming his brother; he was attempting to avoid any injuries. Wu swung the katana towards Garmadon again, and it cut his face slightly. Garmadon winced.

"Wu... careful..."

"You aren't fighting at your best." Wu complained.

"I'm trying to avoid anyone getting hurt." Garmadon muttered.

"FIGHT ME! At your BEST!" Wu demanded. Garmadon rolled his eyes.

The brothers began to fight again. Garmadon proceeded to block Wu's hits, until he tripped causing Wu to fall as well. When they fell, Wu lost his grip on the katana. He quickly grabbed the blade as it came down onto Garmadon's chest.

"WU!" Garmadon screamed in pain.

"Brother!" Wu let go of the now bloody katana as he stared in horror of what he had just done.

"this...," Garmadon gasped. "is why I didn't want you using father's katana."

Wu was hyperventalating at the sight of blood. "Wh-what do I do? Father and mother aren't home.. I-I-I'm sorry, Garmadon..." Wu began to cry.

"Wu, listen to me very carefully," Garmadon winced. "grab the handle of the katana and pull as hard as you can. Then get that bucket of water and bring it back." Garmadon said, pointing at the bucket of water he was supposed to clean the windows with.

"I-I don't want to hurt you more..." Wu said through his tears. He still could not believe what he had done.

"It'll hurt me more if you do not help."

Wu nodded and did as his brother told him to do. Garmadon proceeded to instruct Wu with medical procedures, then helped him to clean the cuts on his hands. Wu sighed heavily. He had been too full of himself and didn't think of what the outcome would be.

~When Wu was 14, he was careful of his actions and isolated himself more than joining in on activities.

Wu sat at the table as he watched out the window. Garmadon was training with his father. Over the years, Garmadon had been different. Ever since he had been bitten by the great devourer, he had changed. Wu sipped his tea then looked down at his hands. He still had scars from the years before. It pained him to think about the past... to think about how selfish he had been. He should've taken advantage of the good times when he could. Now his brother was mean and didn't care about anyone.

Wu took another sip of his tea as he looked back out the window. It appeared as if Garmadon was now verbally fighting with their father. Wu sighed once more. He knew it was his fault Garmadon was this way. If he had only been selfless and gotten his father's katana when he lost it, Garmadon would still be his old self. Wu cringed as he thought about that day...

Wu and Garmadon had been sparring as their father sat and watched. Garmadon disarmed Wu and the katana flew over the monastery walls.

"Brother, go get the katana," Garmadon said.

"I don't wanna... I'll do it tomorrow." Wu muttered.

"Wu... like father always says," Garmadon looked over at their father, then back at Wu. "never put off till tomorrow what can be done today." Garmadon ran off to find the katana.

He knelt into a bush to grab the katana, then a snake slithered out and bit his hand. He cringed as his eyes glowed red slightly.

"Garmadon, what's taking so long?" Wu complined, coming out to where Garmadon was.

"I've only been gone 5 minutes!!" Garmadon shouted, thrusting the katana to Wu and storming inside. Shocked, Wu stared at where Garmadon had left to and stayed for fifteen minutes staring at the path, trying to take in what had just happened.

"Never put off till tomorrow what can be done today," Wu whispered. "the last words he ever said to me before he changed..."

Wu sadly glanced towards the window again. The thoughts and memories were spinning in his head. The depression he was feeling was strong. He tried very hard to hide it, but he knew he couldn't. Garmadon's last words would stick with Wu forever.

~When Wu was 18, he finally reached his breaking point with his depression. He had enough. He felt the only way to rid the guilt from himself was to rid the source: Garmadon...

"Brother, what are you doing? We promised father we would look after them, not use them." Wu stated, as he watched his brother try to handle the golden weapons.

"Oh Wu... but don't you see, I am the destined one. I can use the powerful golden weapons."

"Garmadon, put them back..."

Garmadon held the nunchucks of lightning and lunged at Wu. As a kneejerk responce, Wu grabbed the sword of fire and the scythe of quakes. Garmadon swiftly took the shirakins (not sure that's spelled right) of ice. They began to fight.

"Don't be like this brother..."

"Oh Wu... I will rule Ninjago one day. I am it's rightful ruler, and with the help of the golden weapons, no one can stop me!"

"Garmadon, back off!" the positive power of Wu's spirit and element against the negative energy created by Garmadons evil caused a lightning storm. They continued to fight as Wu felt the urge to get rid of Garmadon once and for all. A bolt of lightning suddenly came down and struck Garmadon, turning him coal black. His ribcage was exposed and his eyes glowed red.

"Garmadon! What has happened to you?" Wu's voice and expression showed fear.

"I feel more powerful than ever before." Garmadon lunged at Wu, until another lightning striked the spot Garmadon was standing in, opening a portal to the Underworld.

"I'm sorry brother, the balence must be restored." Wu pushed Garmadon into the portal.

As soon as the portal closed, the lightning storm stopped. Wu sighed heavily. He was feeling a wave of emotions, but happiness and relief was not one of them. In fact, he felt more guilt and grief than he had before. He would live with that guilt for the rest of his life. What pained him more is the fact that Garmadon had a wife and son... Wu had left his nephew fatherless.

~Ever since that day, Wu had been careful of his actions and he thought things through completely before acting. He put his needs and other people's needs before desires. All through his life, he hadn't given up that guilt. All the years he and Garmadon lost because Wu had been selfish. Let this be a lesson: Needs before desires, others before yourself, be selfless, and most of all, never put off till tomorrow what can be done today.
