Enjoy! It was Christmas Eve and a light snow was falling from the night sky. Aya was walking Sakura home now. There had been a small party at the Kitty in the House. It hadn't really been a party; it had been more like a quiet gathering of friends. Whatever it had been, Sakura had enjoyed it.
Sakura shivered and wrapped her arms tighter around her body. It was just another cold night, but being with Aya make it so much more bearable. He was colder than the snow that was falling, but Sakura still enjoyed being with him. He had an aloof attitude, but he really was a kind person.
Sakura's house was just at the end of this road, and, even though it was freezing, she wished the road were longer. She and Aya rarely exchanged words, but she didn't mind. Just being by Aya's side was enough for her. As the road home become shorter, she cherished the rare moments she spent with Aya more and more. There was still quite the distance Sakura had to run before she knew Aya well enough to truly call herself his friend.
Much too soon for Sakura, she and Aya reached her house. The stone fence around her home reminded her of the obstacle that separated her and Aya at the end of the road. Maybe if she could just admit her feelings, she would be able to close the distance between them and jump over the fence to finally meet up with Aya.
What a silly fantasy, Sakura thought. The fence around her house was just a fence, nothing more. The road home was just a road, not a symbol for how far she still needed to run.
Just as Sakura was about to say goodnight, Aya said, "I have something for you. Close your eyes and say 'ahh…'" His voice was as serious as usual, and his face showed no emotion.
Sakura was surprised by this request, but also rather intrigued. When she closed her eyes and opened her mouth slightly, she felt Aya press his lips against hers.
During the kiss, Sakura's mind blanked out. All she could think about was that Aya was kissing her. It was a pleasant feeling, and all of Sakura's worries from earlier vanished as the kiss continued. Aya had been the one to jump the fence and travel the rest of the road. Sakura was slightly disappointed that she hadn't been the one to do that, but she supposed it didn't matter. They were finally together, and Sakura would continue to be there for Aya.
When their lips parted, Aya brought Sakura into his arms and cradled her head against his chest. She could hear his excited heartbeat. It sounded exactly how hers felt. Almost without thinking, she wrapped her arms around his back. She had longed to be in his arms and to hold him in her arms ever since she had fallen in love with him. When had that been? When she had first met him? Sakura chuckled silently. When she had fallen in love didn't matter. Only that she was in love with him mattered. The whole idea of him cradling her and her cradling him almost seemed like a dream. But it was real. Hearing his heartbeat proved that.
"Merry Christmas," Aya whispered into Sakura's ear. He let her go and then added, "Goodnight, Sakura."
"Goodnight, Aya-san," Sakura replied, unable to stop smiling. The kiss and the cradle had been the nicest Christmas gifts she had ever received, and she would treasure them always.
