He woke up to darkness.

How long had he been asleep? He didn't know. Had he ever been awake before? He couldn't remember. Why was he awake? That, he knew. It was his turn. In pitch blackness he reached out and touched the walls of the capsule that confined him, tracing its outline, feeling the smooth, spherical shape. This capsule was his prison, the prison where he'd spent his entire life waiting. So many years... So many years of darkness and silence. That was about to change, and he knew it.

Outside his capsule he could hear footsteps. Had he ever heard such a sound before? He didn't know. Had he ever heard any sound before in his life? He had no idea. All of those questions had to remain unanswered, because all that mattered was the present. Here and now. The footsteps came to a halt right outside the wall. Whoever was out there had to be less than a meter away. A period of silence followed. How long? He couldn't tell. The next sound he heard caused him to panic - the footsteps were moving away from him! In his desperation, it took him several seconds to realize that the walls of his capsule had become translucent.

His first glimpse of the outside world revealed a room of extremely large proportions. However, the room was so dark that he almost couldn't see the walls. He figured that was probably the reason of why he hadn't noticed the change at first. The only light there was came from the silhouette that was slowly walking away. He moved a bit, trying to get a better look at whoever was out there. For some reason, the silhouette turned towards him one more time. Luck? Divine intervention? He didn't care. This time he moved again, trying not to get blinded by the light. The silhouette was now back at his capsule, and this time he could see that it was a man. Had he ever seen a man before? Maybe this one? Having spent his entire life in darkness, he doubted it.

The man was dressed in some sort of protective suit. The most prominent feature of it was the helmet. The rounded shape of the capsule distorted the surroundings a bit, but he could still see the spherical helmet, with the glass shield in front. Inside it he could now see the face of the man, who looked both surprised and confused at the same time. The top of the capsule folded open. He began to move towards the top of it, but stopped when he remembered what he was supposed to do, so he waited. The man began to bend down, looking directly at him, and he knew that now was the time...

WHAM! He leapt towards the man's head. It didn't take him long to literally melt the glass and get through to the man's face in order to attach himself to it, at the same time wrapping his tail around the man's neck. Then, all he had to do was, once again, to wait. The radio, which he had no idea what it was, inside the helmet emitted words he didn't understand. "Kane... Kane, can you hear me?" What could those strange noises mean? He didn't know. He didn't care. All he cared about was what was happening here and now.

THE END

Author's note:
For those who haven't figured it out yet, this short story is a part of the first Alien movie. It's the part where Kane gets attacked by the facehugger, but it's seen from the facehugger's perspective. A defenseless little creature trying to fullfill his only purpose in life, and succeeding. Ok, maybe not so defenseless, but still... Also, I know that the Aliens are supposed to be androgynous, but it sounded better with "he" than "it".
