"Eli, I got you something."

Eli turned to find Clare reaching into her bag and pulling out what seemed to be a red scarf. "Clare, seriously? Isn't this kinda... girly?"

"I just thought, since it's been getting cold outside recently, maybe you needed a scarf."

"I don't need a scarf, Clare."

"Really? Because your rosy nose says you do."

"Maybe I have a cold."

"All the more reason to wear a scarf."

"Sorry, not my style."

"Fine," she sighed. "If you don't want it, I'll just give it to Adam or something."

"Why not just keep it?"

"The point of a gift is to give it to someone, Eli."

"You know what? Fine. Give me the stupid scarf."

She smiled happily, wrapping the aforementioned item around his neck. Tying it smoothly in front, she stepped back to admire her handiwork only to catch his gaze. Both stood absorbing the moment, entranced, before he broke the silence, her hands still resting on the ends of the scarf.

"So, Clare. What are you doing after school tomorrow?"
