The rushing feeling that showered through my veins as I soared above the horizon was like no other. Pushing winds forced my long brown hair flowing back. With a loud "Woo-hoo!", Blugrose, my Windcatcher dragon, threw herself back into a backflip, then twisted until she was flying straight again. We had practiced this trick over and over, and even though we had mastered it, we didn't even have a name for it.
Suddenly, I saw a village below us. Encased in raging fire, screams and wails were heard coming from it. I yanked on Blugrose's bridle, slowing her down so I could get a better look.
Many squeals were heard of what sounded like names, but the loudest ones called, "Hiccup!"
I brought Blugrose to a complete stop, pushing her downwards after she was halted. We landed just behind a tall building, as I had planned. I watched the ongoing chaos unfurl before me, until he finally caught my eye.
It was Hiccup.
My dear, long lost brother was alive! How would I tell Mom? She'd been talking to herself for some time now, murmuring things like "Hiccup", "Please", and "Tell me." Hiccup's oak-brown, shaggy hair that resembled my own, Mom's and Dad's...Dad! Where was he? I couldn't go looking around in an unfamiliar town, so I stayed and watched.
Hiccup was being pushed towards a crossbow-shooter. He hesitantly aimed it up toward the sky, right at a...dragon! I screamed at the sight of this scene, though my wails were camoflauged by the loud cries of the entire town.
Then I paused. I froze. I stiffened. The dragon was not any ordinary dragon, it was a Night Fury. If Hiccup killed that dragon, there would be no Night Furies left. In a moment of desperation, Hiccup pulled back the sling, and in instinct I lunged at him.
The force of the jump caused Hiccup to stumble, and eventually lose his balance. The arrow he had perfectly aimed was now heading a little farther from the dragon, but still toward it. I jumped up to my feet, watching the arrow as it struck the Night Fury's wing.
In that moment, Hiccup rubbed his head and sat up. I had to go. There would be so much more drama if he saw me. Even if he didn't remember me, I had to escape that crumbling town.
Almost in slow motion, I sprinted as fast as I could to the building where Blugrose sat behind. I jumped up onto her back and she immediately flew up into the dark night sky.
We had to tell Mom.
