The Demon's Smile

Disclaimer:I don't own anything to do with Sweeney Todd, only a copy of the DVD and a fangirlish attitude towards it

It wasn't that she was a bad person. On the contrary, he'd always found her to be kind and gentle. It was just that he brought out the worst in her. She was the puppet and he was the marionette, always under his control. She'd been doomed from the start.

He supposed that love had blinded her in a sense. It didn't matter what he had done, only that he was there, waiting for something. But that something had clearly not been her. Toby had no real experience in love anyway. All he'd ever known was fear. Dark, black fear like a shadow stalking him at every moment until it destroyed him.

Until she had taken him into he home and loved him like a son. Made him laugh, treated him like a real person, instead of a dog that was beaten every time he did something wrong. He knew that she had loved him, she had just loved the demon more.

He could have said that it was a hard thing to do; killing Sweeney Todd, but it would have been a lie to do so. It was his revenge. His triumph. He had told him mum that nothing was going to harm her, but, he had broken that promise. That night, Nellie Lovett had been cast into the fire by the man she loved, the man who did not love her back.

Her dying screams had crushed his soul, leaving him in the dark once again.

He had crawled out of the sewers that had earlier offered him protection from the demon, taken up the razor which he had used to kill countless others in cold blood, the razor that was covered in blood, the razor that seemed to be smiling at its maters handiwork and he had slit the demons throat. Leaving him to die in a pool of his own blood, holding in his arms the only woman he had ever loved, the one he had murdered.

Toby supposed it was all quite ironic really…

No, it wasn't that she was a person. It was just that love had made her vulnerable and foolish. A demon hadcharmed her with a smile, and from that day on she had been cursed.

That was the night Tobias Ragg had sworn to himself that he would never let anyone make him feel that was. Never again let anyone harm him, so that, in a sense, he could keep his mums promise towards him.

"Nothing gonna harm you darling." She had said, and she was right.

Well, what did you think? I was personally quite proud of this, so I'm interested to hear what you guys think. Remember; reviews are love.
