and affiliated people. Author has nothing to do with the ownership; she's
just playing in their sandbox. She promises to play nice with the other
children and the characters and to put everything back where she found it.
Author Note: Simple as this, ya'll: I wrote this out of the little plot
bunny that's been nagging at me since the last time I read a story where
some character has said that, "There is no need for the Preventers! The
world is at peace!" Bullshit is what I say to that. Basically, this is
the response. The poem can stand alone, but the inspiration came from
Gundam Wing, so I went with it. "She" can be seen as Relena is supreme
pacifist
mode and "He" is either Wufei (most likely) or Heero telling Relena that
she is an idiot.

She said, He said: On the Eve of Peace

She said, "The silence is gone."
Celebrations for celebrated fits,
War is won, battle is over,
Heroes on pedestals and enemies slaughtered.

He replied, "The silence is deafening."
Triumph over triumph lost,
War is won, battle has started,
Heroes in chains and enemies slaughtered.

She said, "The fight is over."
Victory concludes victory complete,
War was won, battle has finished,
Heroes close doors and enemies are dead.

He replied, "The fight continues."
Bloodied purges will purge again,
War was won, battle has begun,
Heroes grow weary and enemies grow strong.

She said, "The fires are ash."
Imagination takes imaginative glance,
War was won, battle has ended,
Heroes may rest and enemies are fiction.

He replied, "The fires still burn."
Smoke signals smoke again,
War was won, battle continues,
Heroes do fall and enemies still climb.
