BETTER THAN HER
"I'm hungry," Choji complained as he peered into his empty chip bag. He reached into his sack to pull out a second bag, but was unsuccessful. Disappointed, he turned to his teammates.
Shikamaru breathed out heavily and scratched the top of his head. "Remind me again why we're out here," he said in an annoyed tone.
It was Asuma who answered. He kept to the back of the group, walking at a slower pace than the others. "We're supposed to escort a messenger from the village of Suna. You shouldn't complain. It's such an easy mission and it is being counted on your records, after all.
"I know, but it's such a pain to come all the way out here. It's so hot! I'm surprised people actually live out here."
Shikamaru gazed out into the distance. The glimmering, white desert seemed to stretch on forever. Humidity poured off the sand, blurring the image of the horizon, but the prominent structures of the tall Suna buildings could still be seen. They had considerably increased in size since the last time he checked.
"If you walked more and talked less, it wouldn't take as long!" Ino glanced back at her teammates as they uselessly chattered. She was the most energetic out of the group and, naturally, remained a few strides ahead of the group.
"It won't be long now," Asuma reassured the team. "We'll reach Suna before nightfall. We'll stay the night there and have a big feast. Then we'll leave tomorrow morning and hike for two days back to Konoha."
