Layla sat on the cold bathroom floor in the dark and silently cried. She clutched the half drank bottle of Jack Daniels. Her thoughts were getting the best of her. She wanted Shane to come home and be with her, but she didn't want to burden him by calling him to come home.
"He doesn't love you. Look at you, you're a pathetic burden to him."
"SHUT UP! THAT'S NOT TRUE!"
"You can try to call him, but he won't answer. He's probably with another woman who doesn't drag him down."
"HE LOVES ME AND WOULDN'T DO THAT TO ME! HE'S AT THE ARENA, SHUT UP!"
"He doesn't love you. Stop thinking that he does."
Layla screamed and continued to cry. The voices wouldn't go away. She had been able to keep them at bay, but lately when she was alone, they came back to torture her. She drank to dull the voices, but it wasn't working. Her depression and schizophrenia were out of control even though she took her medication.
"You're ugly and a terrible person. No wonder he isn't with you. Kill yourself. Remove your burden to him and kill yourself."
Layla went back and forth with the voices for a few moments before she stopped talking to them. Her tears were flowing full force. She got up to look in the mirror. She didn't see beauty, she saw a pathetic shell of a human who couldn't stay strong enough to fight. There was no happiness, just depression and loneliness, even when she was with Shane, she felt empty as if nothing could fill the void. Shane treated her so well, it wasn't anything he was doing wrong to her.
"You don't deserve him. He deserves better."
Layla stared at herself before punching the mirror. She picked up a shard and slit her wrists. She sank to the floor crying softly, feeling her warm blood begin to pool around her. Slowly everything began to fade out. All sounds, all sight was fading away. The tears stopped after she took her last breath. Her body slowly fell to the floor.
Shane walked in the door to their hotel room. It was dark and quiet. "Layla?" Shane asked as he walked through the room looking for her, turning on the lights. A sinking feeling grew in his stomach. He became anxious as he couldn't find her. He walked into the bathroom and turned on the light. He froze seeing her lifeless body on the floor. Tears began to form as he gasped. "No!" He whispered. He cradled her in his arms, her body still warm.
"Why didn't you call me? I would have rushed back for you. I love you." He said between ragged breaths.
