Kinda got stuck with my other story, got just enough for maybe one short chapter more but no clue how to end it so here's some new material.

"On a daily rotation of 28 hours, the planet EM III cycles from radio waves to gamma rays." The teacher informed the class, "we live in the infrared and below. We can venture into the visible rays between hours 12 and 16 but never after." A student raised their hand. "Why not?" he asked. "Because, James, if we stay out longer, we would die."
"We would die." The words kept ringing in James Kirk's ears. His people had always gone inside when the hours past the lights rose but they never knew why other than fear of the unknown. That was before someone did stay out and never came back in, the next morning they found the body, dead. Jim was 10 then, now he was 15 and they had finally figured out what had caused her death. A thing called electromagnetic waves from the two suns their planet, EM III revolved around. As of that breakthrough, a 28 hour day was created, 4 hours for each electromagnetic wavelength; in theory anyway.
As he was walking home, He realized just how much Jim remembered from his teacher's boring-ass lecture; and it surprised him. He was day dreaming, doodling, wishing he had a boyfriend, whatever to pass the time the whole class.
"Jim!" That was his best friend, Bones.
His real name was Leonard but he had a fascination for the medical field. He'd dressed up as a witch doctor one halloween and that name he'd come up for him just sort of stuck.
"So I was just thinking about what Ms. Grayson said about the waves and that shit," he took a panting breath, "I didn't really get the whole thing with the wavelengths and stuff but do you ever think about what lives on the other side of the spectrum? I mean, imagine what knowledge they might have. What if contact had some major medical breakthroughs, like, I could find a cure for measles!"
"Measles? That's the best you've got?"
"Hey," Bones started defensively, "I get plagued by it every damn year and I just have to wait it out. Speeding up that process would be amazing."
"Good enough, let's go tonight" Jim suggested.
"Are you crazy?!" Bones exclaimed, "do you WANT to die?"
"Well, no, that really wasn't the point, I'm just saying, maybe we could build a suit or something that would protect us from the deadly waves. Our houses do it, so let's just make some suits to do the same job."
"Jesus Jim, don't you think if people could do that they would have, I don't know, done it already?"
"Yeah, well they were too busy making houses, c'mon."
"No no no, I'm gonna be a doctor, not an engineer and you don't even know the first thing about building whatever the hell we're gonna have to do to make this work."
"No, but I know a guy who can."
