Book one: Jacob

I couldn't justifiably be this pissed. There was no reason for me to be horrified. I mean, it wasn't possible anyway. Was it? The only reassurance I'd had in the last twenty-four hours was staring into little Nessie's face. She was so beautiful, sleeping in my arms. I tried to ignore the smart-ass look on Edwards face as he drilled through my brain. "Well, Jacob, I can't say that I'm surprised," he said, smirking like the devil. I was. I was very surprised. You're not going to tell Bella, or Nessie, I thought with a growl. He full on grinned then. Bella was in the next room on the phone with Charlie. She, Blondie, and of course, Alice, had been planning this party all summer. For once, I wasn't opposed. I hadn't even complained about the stink once, the whole time we'd been setting up. Renee' was in the kitchen too, helping Esme with the cake. Carlisle, the big one, and Jasper were on security duty, making sure we didn't have any unwanted guests. It wasn't really necessary… the pack would be here before long. Bella peaked around the corner at me and Edward. She grinned when she saw Nessie. "She's still asleep?" I nodded. Edward strolled to Bella's side like a well-trained monkey. "Well she needs to wake up," I heard Alice shout from behind Bella. "We can't do her hair while she's there," Blondie agreed. Oh, please. There was no place Nessie like more than here… my arms, I mean. She stirred, her little pink cheeks dimpled from happy dreams. I stroked one of those rosy cheeks. Nah, it definitely wasn't possible. I held her tighter. Carlisle came strolling in then, Charlie walking behind him awkwardly. "Hey, Jake," he said before I turned. When he saw Nessie in my arms, he gasped. I guess he'd forgotten what I'd long been used to… how beautiful she was. He grinned like a chick, reaching out for her instinctively. I didn't mind Charlie; he was one of my last non-leach companions. I willingly gave her to him. She stretched and yawned, her mouth making an O. "Hi, Nessie," Charlie cooed. Nessie smiled, and unlike usually, kept her hands at her sides. We'd all been working with her on that. "Only family… and Jacob… understand you, honey. You must not show your gift to anyone like Grandpa Charlie or Grandma Renee'," I had heard Edward tell her. And Jacob. Wasn't I family yet? At least to her? I guess not.
