The metal in her hand felt warm... not even close to cold and unforgiving. But she didn't let herself be fooled by the inviting possibility.
Too many before her had underestimated what was about to happen, and that with disastrous consequences... but she, Allison Cameron, wouldn't be the next one. She wouldn't make a mistake, under no circumstances, no matter what would await her.

It wasn't like her to get something wrong.
She always knew what she was doing – and she knew perfectly well what had to be done in order to end it all.
Still her fingers trembled as she touched the old and gradually worn piece of metal a second time. It could change so much.. if you did it right the first time, with enough bravery.

She hesitated only for a heartbeat – was she really able to do it? - but then the fleeting moment was gone and her hand closed completely around the door handle, opening it with a small thud.
